Shikshayatan Public School and Donny Polo School in pre-quarterfinals

Patna, November 26, 2009:
Shikshayatan Public School and Donny Polo School got the tickets for last 16 stage of the 25th All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Shikshayatan Public School beat DAV Public School by 31 runs while Donny Polo School thrashed Awasiya Bal Niketan, Bihta, by 119 runs.

Arnav Kumar (Shikshayatan) and Sidhant Vijay (Donny Polo) got the man of the match awards.

Brief scores: Shikshayatan Public School: 108 for eight wickets in 25 overs (Alind Singh-39, Vikas Raj-22, Pratyush-11, Vishwajit-2/17, Harshvardhan-2/7).

DAV Public School: 77 all out in 15.5 overs (Vipul-17, Anirudh-3/14, Anurag-2/11, Sachin-2/21).

Donny Polo Public School: 170 for five wickets in 25 overs (Sidhant Vijay-70, Shasheem Rathore-48, Nitesh Anand-28, Vivek-2/17, Punit-2/30).

Awasiya Bal Shiksha Niketan, Bihta: 51 all out in 19.1 overs (Ashutosh-12, Vivek-4/9, Kundan Sharma-2/6).

Bihar junior kabaddi from December 5

Patna, November 26, 2009:
The 36th Bihar state junior kabaddi championships will be held at Madhubani from December 5, according to Kumar Vijay, secretary, Bihar State Kabaddi Association (BSKA).

On the basis of the performance in the championships, Bihar team for the 36th junior National kabaddi championship to be held in Bhopal would be selected, he said.

BSKA had formed a selection committee with Jagarnath Singh as its convener. Other members of the committee were Mukesh Kumar, Dinesh Chandra Jha, Ramji Upadhaya and Rana Ranjit Singh.

Ajay nets hattrick as Buxar trounce Muzaffarpur

Patna, November 26, 2009:
Ajay Kumar’s fine hat-trick helped Buxar decimate Muzaffarpur 4-1 in the 61st Bihar State football championships for Moinul Haq Trophy in Purnia on Thursday.

According to information reached here, in another match Motihari crushed Nalanda 5-1.
Manoj Kumar scored the fourth goal for Buxar. Raman Kumar of Muzaffarpur hit the lone goal for his team. Ajay Kumar was named man of the match.

Suman Gautam of Motihari struck two goals while Arun Choudhary, Md Rashid and Raushar scored one goal each. Prabhakar of Nalanda reduced the margin. Raushan of Motihari got the man of the match award.

Chandni emerges PWC champions


Patna, November 25, 2009:
Patna Women’s College organized its annual sports day at its ground on Wednesday. A large number of students participated in the track and field and other events to celebrate the occasion. Chandni Kumari of BA-I won the overall championship title collecting maximum points.

Suman of BA-II took the runner-up title while Samira Fatima of BCom-III won the indoor championship’s trophy. Bihar Legislative Assembly speaker, Uday Narain Choudhary inaugurated the meet in a gala function. Bihar Minister Dr Anil Kumar and Patna District Magistrate Jitendra Kumar Sinha were the guests of honours at the opening function.

The day began with the hoisting of the college flag followed by march past, lighting the torch, opening ceremony and oath taking and a the welcome song “Swagatam Hai Aapka”.

Dr Sister Doris D’Souza, AC, principal, Patna Women’s College, addressed the students and encouraged them to excel in every field of life.

Events that enthralled the spectators most were dumb bells by the students of BCom-II, yogasana by BSc-I and II, hoops by BA-I, dandia by B.A-II and aerobics by vocational.
Later, Uday Narain Choudhary gave away the prizes.

Teachers and staff members of Patna Women’s College also participated in the sport events. Shobha Shrivastava got the first prize in teachers’ game while Amoli got the second prize. Anshu had to be satisfied with the third prize.
Students also made a formation of 26/11 on the ground after the sports events to pay homage to the victims of 26/11 Mumbai terros attack on the eve of its first anniversary.

Supaul edge past Arwal

Patna, November 25, 2009:
Supaul edged past Arwal 5-3 via shootouts while Bhagalpur got a walkover against Khagaria on the fourth day of Bihar State football championships for the Moinul Haq Trophy in Purnia on Wednesday.

According to information reached here, Anil Kumar put Arwal into the lead in the 19th minute through his solo effort. Shambhu Kumar made it 2-0 in the 30th minute of the match.

Arwal were leading 2-0 at the end of first half. In the second half, Supaul fought back as Raju Kumar reduced the lead in the 60th minute. Raju found the target once against to bring in the equalizer in the 77th minute. Penalty shootouts came into force for the result. Supaul struck three goals while Arwal found the target once. Raju Kumar of Supaul was adjudged man of the match.
In the second match, Khagaria failed to turn up against Bhagalpur.

St Paul’s School, Begusarai and Don Bosco Academy, Patna in second round


Patna, November 25, 2009: St Paul’s School, Begusarai and Don Bosco Academy, Patna moved into the second round of the 25th All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

In the first match of the day, St Paul’s School prevailed over Sun International School, Patna by 72 runs while Don Bosco Academy got the better of Indian Public School, Sasaram by 6 wickets.
Batting first Begusarai boys made 153 for the loss of five wickets with Santosh Kumar scoring a magnificent 50 runs. Manish (30) too contributed well. Vishal took two wickets for 26 runs.

In reply, Sun International School were bowled out for paltry 81 runs.In the second match, Sasaram boys collected 71 runs off 22.3 overs. In reply, Don Bosco boys raced to the target losing four wickets.

Santosh Kumar Sonu of St Paul’s School and Abhishek Kumar of Don Bosco Academy were adjudged man of the match.

Hard-fought win for Muzaffarpur

Patna, November 24, 2009:
Muzaffarpur pipped Banka 1-0 in the 61st Bihar State and inter-district football championships for Moinul Haq Trophy here in Purnia on Tuesday.

According to information reached here, in another match of the day, Nalanda earned full points by virtue of a walkover against East Central Railway Sonepur division.
Anuj Kumar of Muzaffarpur scored the lone goal of the match in the 76th minute. Ashwani Chandan of Muzaffarpur was named man of the match.

Ashwani Public School, Danapur, got the ticket for round of last sixteen in the 25th All- India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament trouncing Mother Teresa Montessori School by seven wickets at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Tuesday.

In the second match, St Paul School, Begusarai, crushed Deo Public School, Saharsa by six wickets.

Purnia to host Bihar State Senior Major badminton from December 11

Patna, November 24, 2009:
Bihar State Senior Major badminton championship will be held at Purnia from December 15, according to KN Jaiswal, secretary, Bihar Badminton Association.

Men, women singles and doubles, veterans’ singles and doubles events will be organized in the three-day meet. The last date for entry is December 10.

Nalanda and Arwal earn full points

Patna, November 23, 2009:
Nalanda and Arwal posted wins while Bhagalpurgot a walkover against Begusarai on the second day of 61st Bihar state and inter-district football championships for Moinul Haq Trophy in Purnia on Monday.

According to information reached here, Nalanda edged out Jehanabad 1-0. Chandan Bharti of Nalanda netted the match winner in the 30th minute. Goaltender Piyush Kumar of Nalanda was declared man of the match.

In another match, Arwal outplayed Sheikhpura 2-0. Sunil Kumar of Arwal, who was declared man of the match, scored both the goals in the 38th and 81st minutes of the game.

In the last match of the day, Bhagalpur got the full points as their their rivals Begusarai did not turn up for the match.

Patel inter-school athletics from December 11

As many as 80 schools from all over Bihar have confirmed their participation in the 8thSardar Patel inter-school athletic championships to be held at the Moinul Haq Stadium here from December 11, according to a press release of Sardar Patel Sports and Cultural Foundation.

The meet has generated huge response among the budding athletes of Bihar. For smooth conduct of the three-day meet different committees have been formed. The important committees are: reception committee, ground committee and technical committee.

Siddharha Senior Secondary School, Deoria booked their berths in the pre-quarter-finals of the 25th All India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament defeating St Joseph’s School, Patna, by five wickets at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Monday.

Krishna Mohan Pandey (Deoria), who scored 25 runs, was adjudged man of the match.
In the first match, Ashwani Public School, Danapur, tamed Sports Hostel, Gorakhpur by 33 runs to enter the second round. Ishan Kishan (Danapur), who scored 38 runs, was declared man of the match.

Patna Women’s College ‘A’ clinch throwball title

Patna, November 22, 2009:
Patna Women’s College ‘A’ struggled to down Patna Women’s College ‘B’ 13-15, 15-6, 15-10, 15-13 in an exhibition throwball match to celebrate their annual sports day here.

Leading from the front Kamna Bharati of Patna Women’s College ‘B’ gave her side a perfect start by winning the first set at 15-13. In the second set Patna Women’s College ‘A’ bounced back with some accurate throw by skipper Neha Singh and Ankita Narayan. ‘A’ won the second set at 15-6.

After winning the second set, Patna Women’s College ‘A’ took full command of the game and won the next two sets and the match easily 15-10, 15-13. Suman, Setu Shekhar, Priyanka and Rebika played well for Patna Women’s College ‘B’ team.

Patna Women’s College principal, Sister Doris D’ Suza, AC, inaugurated the match. Throwball Association of Bihar secretary Neeraj Kumar Pappu was present on the occasion.

In girls’ section, Manya Diptam (Patna) with 3 points and Janhavi (Patna) with 3 points earned second and third spots respectively.

Bihar boys storm into sub-jr soccer final

Patna, November 22, 2009: Bihar stormed into the final of the 32nd sub junior national football championship for Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy at JRD Sstadium in Jamshedpur on Sunday. Bihar edged past Orissa 4-3 in penalty shootouts.

According to Bihar Football Association secretary, Syed Ejaz Hussain, with this victory, Bihar booked the ticket for the final phase of the tournament to be held at Gurgaon from December 10.

After a goalless first half, Bivision Ho struck the first goal for Bihar in the 85th minute. Orissa equalised the lead in the dying moments. In the shootouts, Sajal Mallick, Satish Deogam and Sanjay Biruli found the target for Bihar.
Arjun bikram Shah, president, Bihar Football Association and its secretary Syed Ejaz Hussain congratulated the team for their stunning performance.

Banka edge out Katihar

Patna, November 22, 2009:
Banka beat Katihar 5-3 in penalty shootouts in the opening match of 61st Bihar State football championships for Moinul Haq Trophy in Purnia on Sunday.

According to information reached here 40 district and institution teams are participating in the 21-day long event.
The match ended 1-1 as Banka and Katihar failed to break the deadlock at end of regulation time. In shootouts, Banka struck four goals while Katihar netted two.
Earlier Raj Kishor Keshri, MLA inaugurated the tournament.

Divine Public School move into second round

Divine Public School, Uttar Pradesh, and St Joseph’s Public School advanced to the second round of the 25th All India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here.

Divine Public School beat MS Academy by 17 runs while St Joseph’s Public School edged out Sri Sri Ravishankar Bal Mandir by 13 runs.

Tushar, Saurav in joint lead in Bihar U-7 chess

Patna, November 21, 2009:
Tushar Sinha of Patna and Saurav Anand of Purnia shot into joint lead with two points each at the end of boys’ second round of the Bihar state under-7 chess championship here on Saturday.

Usha Arya of Patna with two points took sole lead after as many rounds in the girls’ section.

Earlier, Sanjeev Kumar, joint secretary, All Bihar Chess Association (ABCA) inaugurated the tournament. Rakesh Ranjan, joint secretary, ABCA, national players Krishna Prasad, Alok Kumar Singh, Abdul Hasib and Akhauri Vinit were present at the inaugural function.

Sanam bags maiden gold; bronze medals for Jayanta Talukdar, Manjudha Soy

KOLKATA, November 21: India’s Isiah Rajendra Sanam won his maiden international gold medal in the men’s individual compound event of the 16th Asian archery championship at Bali (Indonesia) today.

The 15th-ranked pushed the fourth-ranked Indonesian Nyoman Puruhito to the silver place with a 106-103 final verdict. The win gave Sanam a creditable double, team and individual gold medals.

Fifth-seeded Jayanta Talukdar held his nerve to defeat 11th-seeded compatriot Mangal Singh Champia 112-110 in the men’s individual recurve bronze medal play-off, according to information received here.

Manjudha Soy came up with creditable victory against eighth-ranked Iranian Seyedeh Halimian 113-111 in the women’s individual compound bronze medal play-off.

As the curtain of the meet wrung down, India ensured perhaps the best ever medal haul in the continental meet by winning two gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

Vikas Kumar of Shikshayatan, who scored 40 runs, was declared man of the match. In the other match, Bhisham Kumar of Ara, who scored 36 runs, was named man of the match.

Indian men's compound team wins gold medal

KOLKATA, November 20:
India won a gold medal and two silver medals from the team championship of the 16th Asian Archery Championship at Bali on Friday.

The Indian men’s compound team, consisting of C. Srither, Kh. Ratan Singh and Isiah R. Sanam, won the gold medal, first ever in any international competition, by overcoming Iran 231-230 in the final.

The Indian men’s recurve team, comprising Rahul Banerjee, Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia, lost to Korea in the final at 219-222 and settled for the silver medal.

The second silver medal came through women’s compound team, comprising Jhano Hansdah, Namita Yadav and Manjudha Soy. The trio lost the final to Korea 215-223.

The Indian women’s recurve side failed to get the bronze medal after losing to China in the play-off. Earlier, the team lost to Korea in the semifinals and moved into the bronze medal play-off.

Donny Polo School and DAV Public School enter 2nd round of Sukhdeo cricket

Patna, November 19, 2009;
Donny Polo School and DAV Public School, Board Colony booked their berths in the second round of the 25th All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Doni Polo School posted seven-wicket victory over MG Inter School (Uttar Pradesh) while DAV Public School, Board Colony crushed Christ Church School by 72 runs.

Batting first MG Inter School made 75 all out. In reply, Donny Polo School boys successfully chased the target losing three wickets on the way.

In the second match, DAV School gathered 133 for 7 wickets while Christ Church School boys could score 61 all out.

Isiah Sanam makes it to maiden final

KOLKATA, November 19:
Isiah R. Sanam, a former National champion, entered the men’s individual compound final of the 16th Asian archery championship at Bali on Thursday.

Sanam, a qualified pilot, displayed steel like nerve and rock like temperament to overcome a number of tough opponents en route to his maiden international final.

Among the recurve archers, only Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia could reach up to the semifinals where they lost. The two will figure in the bronze medal play-off on Saturday, according to information received here.

Manjudha Soy will also figure in the women’s compound bronze medal play-off.

All the four Indian teams will be seen in action in the team elimination round to be held on Friday.

Ahana, Lekh earn grand treble

Patna, November 17, 2009: Lekh Raj and Ahana Pal did an incredible. Both the players earned a grand treble in the Braj Deo Roy memorial 58th Bihar state and inter-district table tennis tournament at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Tuesday.

Lekh Raj of Patna won the men’s singles, doubles and youth boys’ singles titles while Ahana of Darbhanga claimed the youth girls, women singles and doubles crowns.

Lekh Raj beat Zunaid-Ur-Rehman 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7 in the men’s singles final while partnering with Rahul Das, the former beat the pair of Rahul Kumar and Somnath Roy 11-6, 11-3, 6-11, 5-11, 11-3 in men’s doubles final. Lekh added one more crown when he beat Zunaid-ur-Rehman 11-3, 8-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-9 in the Youth singles final.

Ahana Pal scripted the same story in the women’s events. Ahana Pal beat Paulomi Raha 11-4, 11-3, 11-5 to clinch the women’s singles title. Ahana Pal and Saiqua Parween trounced Patna pair of Chumaki Mandal and Dipali Sarkar 11-8, 11-8, 13-11. In the Youth girls’ singles final Ahana got the better of Priya Kumari 11-3, 11-4, 11-4.

Rahul Kumar of Patna bagged the junior boys’ singles crown beating Rahul Prakash also from Patna 11-7, 11-5 and 11-8 in the final. Ankit Kumar of Patna won the sub-junior boy’s singles title defeating Amit Kumar (Patna) 12-10, 6-11, 11-5 and 11-9 in the final.

Dr Himanshu Roy distributed the prizes. Dilip Kumar Gandhi, secretary, Patna District Table Tennis Association, welcomed the guests. Mukesh Roy, secretary, Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA), proposed a vote of thanks.

Don Bosco Academy clinch a cliff-hanger

Patna, November 17, 2009: Don Bosco Academy edged past Town High School by two wickets to move into the second round of the 25th Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Tuesday.

Batting first Town High School made 114 all out off 24.5 overs. In reply, Don Bosco Academy scored the winning run second last ball of the innings.

Amitabh of Don Bosco, who claimed five wickets and scored 30 runs, was declared man of the match.

India men’s team finishes 2nd, Rahul Banerjee third

KOLKATA, November 18: The Indian men’s recurve team, comprising Rahul Banerjee, Jayanta Talukdar and Mangal Singh Champia, scored 3,953 points to rank second overall in the FITA round qualification of the 16th Asian archery championship at Bali (Indonesia) on Wednesday.

The women’s compound side, consisting of Jhano Hansdah, Namita Yadav and Manjudha Soy, totaled 4,034 points to stand third overall, by far the best show in this championship.

Rahul Banerjee was the best placed among the Indians at third overall with a total of 1326 points. Talukdar stood fifth (1321), Champia was 11th (1306) and young Atanu Das occupied the 24th spot (1274), according to information received here.

In the women’s compound section, Jhano was seventh overall with 1361. Gagandeep surprised with her improved display to come 11th with 1358 points. Namita with 1337 was 14th and Manjudha was 15th with 1336.

Bihar storm into semifinals

Patna, November 17, 2009: Bihar stormed into the semi-finals of the 32nd sub-junior National football championship for Mir Iqbal trophy outplaying Rajasthan 4-0 at Jamshedpur on Tuesday.

According to information reached here, Bihar led 1-0 in the first half. Bivision Ho drew the first blood in the 15th minute. Samu Hembron made it 2-0 in the 60th minute. Bivison struck two goals in the 78th and 90th minutes to take the tally to 4-0.

Indian archers start campaign on positive note

Kolkata, November 17: India opened the 16th Asian Archery Championship at Bali (Indonesia) in a positive note with the Indian men’s compound team totaling 4050 points in the FITA round qualification to rank third overall. The women’s recurve team occupied fourth spot with a total of 3941 points on Tuesday.

The men’s compound team consisted of National champion C. Srither, Kh. Ratan Singh and Isiah R. Sanam. The women’s recurve side had Rimil Buriuly, Laxmirani Majhi and Chekrovolu Swuro as members.

Individually, Srither was the best Indian in the ranking round being placed at second. The best women recurve archer was Rimil Buriuly at ninth.

Men’s recurve and women’s compound events will be gone through on Wednesday.

As many as 400 archers from 32 countries are participating in the four-day championship. The continental qualification for youth Olympics will also be held during the meet.

India have already booked a maximum of two berths (men and women) through Atanu Das and Seema Verma at the Youth World Championship at Ogden (US) in July this year.

Patna, November 16, 2009: Army Boys Sports Company, Danapur beat Muzaffarpur Police 2-1 to win Rameshwar Singh memorial football tournament title at the New Police Lines ground here on Monday.

25th Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament begins


Patna, November 15, 2009:
The silver jubilee edition of the All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament, organized by BP Sinha Foundation got off to a colourful start at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Sunday.

The opening function began with welcome song presented by the girls of Litera Valley School. Chief guest Navin Kumar, Development Commissioner (Government of Bihar) hoisted the tournament flag. Guru Govind Singh School, Patna Sahib girls led the march past by the participating school teams under the tune of BMP band. Then the Chief guest Navink Kumar declared the tournament open amid thunderous applauses.

Patna Central MLA, Arun Kumar Sinha was the special guest. Dr Achal Sinha, Bihar Cricket Association secretary Ajay Narayan Sharma, Dr Chitranan Sinha, Pratyay Amrit (IAS), Ajay Kumar Sinha, SK Mehrotra, Alok Raj (IPS), Guru Charan Gandhi, Atish Chandra, Binod Kumar, DK Jha, Ravi P Sinha, Mirtunay Tiwari, president Bihar Players Association and LP Verma, former international umpire were present at the inaugural function.

On the occasion, organising committee felicitated sports scribes Md Ishauddin, Shabab Anwar, Prashant Kakkar, Arun Kumar Singh, Ajay Rashmi, Pramod Kumar Singh, Abhijit Biswas, Razi Ahmad, Ashish, Amarnath and Krishna Murari Kishan (photographer).

Later in a scheduled on field action, St Karen’s High School thrashed Sidhant Public School, Sasaram by nine wickets, Gaurav Agrawal ran though the Sidhant Public School innings claiming 7 wickets for five runs.Gaurav was declared man of the match.

Batting first after winning the toss, Sasaram School were bundled out for 18 runs off 9.4 overs. None of the Sasaram batsmen could reach the double figures.
In reply, St Karen’s raced to the target off only two overs without losing a wicket. Suraj (14) and Anujeet (10) remained unbeaten.

Amiya sets the track ablaze

Patna, November 15, 2009: Amiya Kumar Mallick of Orissa Zone raced to glory in 100-m sprin to claim the gold medal in All India Mahatma Hansraj Aryan tournament at the Mithilesh Stadium here on Sunday.

Prem Sagar and Brij Mohan Singh (both Patna Zone) won the silver and bronze medals respectively. Amiya Kumar Mallick also won the 200-m sprint gold medal. Basant Kumar and Satya Prakash (both Ranchi Zone) bagged the second and third positions respectively.

According to information received here, Samu Hembrum blasted seven goals including a coveted hat-trick. Bivison Ho scored three goals. Sunil Lohar and Sanjay Biruli scored one goal each.

Patna ‘A’ proved their supremacy in Bihar table tennis, one again. Patna ‘A’ beat Madhepura 3-1 to retain the men’s team championships title of the Prof BP Roy memorial 58th Bihar state and inter-district table tennis tournament at the Bihar YoungMen’s Institute (BYMI) here on Sunday.

Drabhanga, spearheaded by flamboyant Ahana Pal captured the women’s team championship crown defeating Patna 3-1 in the final.

In singles matches, all top ranked players led by Varsha Kumari (Katihar), Pooja Kumari (Madhepura), Shama Perween (Katihar), Varsha Bhagyasri (Patna), Riya Kumari (Katihar), Riyanshi Kumari (Madhepura), Banti Kumari (Katihar) and Pooja (Katihar) entered the quarter-finals of the cadet group.

Raj Inter High School, Dumraon lift Rock soccer trophy

Patna, November 15, 2009: Raj Inter High School, Dumraon won the Rock inter-school football tournament title trouncing Army School, Danapur 5-0 in a one-sided final at the outer ground of the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Sunday.

Dominating Dumraon boys took a commanding 3-0 at the end of the first half.

Dumraon played magnificently with short and crisp passes. They outplayed their rivals in all departments of the game. Ajay Kumar Sharma opened the account in the 7th minute with a power-packed volley. Dumraon had another chance in the 11th minute but Ramesh Yadav’s shot ricocheted off the cross piece. Three minutes later, Krishnakant shot wide from a close range.
Aay Kumar Sharma increased the tally in the 17th minute (2-0). In the 21st minute, Dumraon scored the third goal resulted from a good move initiated by Ramesh Yadav and Sonu Shrma. Ramesh struck the goal (3-0).

After the breather, Dumraon boys scored two more goals to take the final tally to 5-0. Ajay Sharma netted the fourth in the 48th minute (4-0) while Bhola Jha made it 5-0 in the 52nd minute.

Navnit Kumar, director, Rock Security and Intelligence Services Private Limited distributed the winners and runners-up trophies. Kumar Vijay, secretary, Bihar State Kabaddi Association, Jwala Prasad Sinha, office secretary, Bihar Football Association and Rajendra Prasad Yadav, secretary, Patna Football Association distributed the individual prizes.

Jitendra Kumar Sinha, secretary, Patna Football Referee Association gave away the prizes to all referees, who supervised the tournament. Haryana emerge champions in National junior women boxing




Patna, November 14, 2009: Haryana clinched the team championships title in the 4th National junior women boxing tournament with 38 points at the end of fifth and final day’s bouts at the Moinul Haq stadium here on Saturday.

Assam finished runners-up with 37 points to their credit. This was Haryana's four-in-a-row team title win. Altogether 226 boxers from 26 states took part in the competition.

Haryana bagged four gold, two silver and as many bronze medals, while Assam got five gold, four silvers and one bronze. Bihar bagged three silver and two bronze medals in the championships.

Pooja Tokas of Delhi was declared the best boxer of the championship while Priyanka of Bihar was adjudged the best promising boxer of the tournament.
Rekha Swami of Delhi and Laxmi of Punjab were declared the best judge and the best referee respectively. Annapurna of Andhra Pradesh was declared best loser.

Bihar’s Science and Technology Minister Shahid Ali Khan was the chief guest and he gave away the prizes. BS Maan, Commandant, CRPF was the special guest at the closing function. Kumar Vijay, chairman, reception committee welcomed the guests. Raiv Kumar Singh, organising secretary proposed a vote of thanks. Organising president Dinesh presided over the function.


Asit Banerjee, vice-president, Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) its administrative secretary, Rakesh Thakran, Gouri Shankar, secretary, Bihar State Ball Badminton Association and Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, general secretary, Dr Shiv Narain Singh Sports Foundation were present at the function.

Cadet boys singles title for Tushar Kanti

Patna, November 14, 2009: Tushar Kanti of Patna won the cadet boys’ single crown of the Prof BDP Rai memorial 58th Bihar state and inter-district tablet tennis championships beating Aditya Umang (Patna) 7-11, 11-7, 11-6, 5-11 and 11-9 in the final at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Saturday.

Top seed Ahna Pal (Darbhanga), Suprna Joshi (Patna), Rinki Ghosh (Patna), Payal Kumari (Madhepura) Priya Kumari (Patna), Dipali Sarkar (Patna), Chumaki Mandal (Patna) and Palmi Raha (Darbhanga) booked their berths in women singles quarterfinals winning their respective matches.

In team event, Patna ‘A’ continued their forward march winning all league matches in their pool ‘B’. By virtue of the all-win record, Patna “A” entered the semi-final. Madhubani, who claimed the second place in pool ‘B’ also qualified for semi-finals.

Patna and Darbhanga collected 16 points each after the end of their league matches in the women’s team event.

Jitendra wins 1500-m gold

Patna, November 14, 2009: Jitendra Yadav of Ranchi Zone stood first in 1500 m race of the All-India Mahatma Hans Raj Aryan tournament at the Mithilesh Stadium here on Saturday.

He clocked 4:36 minute. Modassir Khan (Ranchi Zone) and Amit Singh (UP Zone) got the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Earlier, Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi inaugurated the championship in a colourful function. RS Sharma, secretary, DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, felicitated the minister. Manju Mehta, examination controller, DAV Education Board, New Delhi, Mohan Lalji, general secretary, Arya Vidya Sabha, New Dehli, RK Chauhan, regional director, Patna Zone and LR Saini, regional director, Ranchi Zone were present at the inaugural function.

Bihar boxers lose in final




Patna, November 13, 2009:
Bihar’s hope for gold was shattered on the penultimate day of the 4th National junior women boxing championships at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday as the three boxers Noori Parween, Priyanka and Shiwani Bharti lost their bouts.

Bhagalpur girl Noori Parween in D6-40kg group lost her final match against Udanshive Chanda Deepak of Maharashtra 0-22. Chanda was aggressive right from the first round as she unleashed shower of punches on Noori to collect points at her will. Noori looked hapless but she took the fight to third round before the referee stopping the contest.

Shiwani Bharti’s bout in the C14-57 kg was another disappointment for the strong crowd who thronged the venue to watch the final charisma of Bihar girl boxers. Shiwani looked like a novice it seemed she forgot what do next after several punches hit her face. Lakshmi Wagh of Maharashtra taught Shiwani a boxing lesson of boxing and captured the gold medal 10-0.

Bihar’s third hope Priyanka showed some what better performance than her teammates. She fought bravely. It was not easy for Priya, a Sports Authority of India (SAI) pugilist, to win a point against Priyanka. However, Priya won the bout at 4-0.

Bihar Government jobs for sportspersons soon
Off the ring, the day proved more than the elusive gold medal for Bihar as the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced government jobs for sportspersons, who bring laurels for the state in national and international-level championships.

Chief Minister was addressing the prize distribution function on the penultimate day of the meet. He asked the concerned officials to formulate a policy in this regard.
He said his government would launch special scheme for boys and girls, who perform remarkably well in national and international tournaments. Under the scheme, government would take care of education and sports training of the players.

The Chief Minister asked Human Resource Development secretary Anjani Kumar Singh to make a comprehensive plan for promotion of sports at school level.
He also announced that international standard boxing rings would be installed in every districts of Bihar. The first of such rings would be installed in Patna soon, he added.

Bihar Chief Minister gave away the medals of the first three finals in glittering ceremony. Bihar’s Disaster Management Minister Devesh Chandra Thakur was the guest of honour while DRM, Danapur Gyan Prakash was the special guest. Nitish Kumar also felicitated Indian Boxing Federation officials.

Patna get off to a blazing start

Patna, November 13, 2009: Patna ‘A’ got off to a blazing start trouncing Madhepura 3-0 in the team event of the Prof BP Rai memorial 58th Bihar state and inter-district table tennis championships at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Friday.

In another match of the day, Patna ‘B’ thrashed Muzaffarpur 3-0.

Earlier, Sanjay Singh, MLC and president, Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA) inaugurated the tournament in a colourful function. Former state champion and Patna District Table Tennis Association secretary Dilip Kumar Gandhi welcomed the guests. Mukeh Roy, secretary, BTTA proposed a vote of thanks. Mahadeo Praad Yadav, vice-president, BTTA presided over the function. Gazipur move into semifinal

Patna, November 13, 2009: Gazipur Football Club cruised into the semi-final of the Ramehwar Singh memorial soccer tournament beating Eastern Railway, Asansol, 1-0at the New Police Lines ground here on Friday.

It was a fierce encounter as both the teams launched attacks and counter attcakes right from the very start of the match. Md Sarfraz of Gazipur scored the match winner in the 26th minute.
Gazipur were leading 1-0 at the end of first half.

In the second half, Asansol men tried hard to bring in the equaliser but poor marksmanship came to their way. Wasim and Sunil of Gazipur were shown yellow cards by referee Umesh Singh for rough play.

Noori, Priyanka rewrite boxing history of Bihar


Patna, November 12, 2009: Noori Parween and Priyanka of Bihar moved into the finals of the Surya Clinic 4th Junior National women boxing championships at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday winning their respective semifinal matches.

Bhagalpur girl Noori boxed into the final defeating Vinita S of Kerala 5-0 in the 40 kg section while Saran girl Priyanka struggled to down Anjali Verma of Uttar Pradesh 7-4 to enter 52kg final.

The duo rewrote a history of sort for Bihar boxing as no pugilist from the state had ever entered the final of the national boxing tournaments after the bifurcation of Bihar in 2000.

Another Bihar girl Khushbu Barthe of Katihar failed to make it into the final losing her 50kg semi-final bout against Lal Fakzuali of Sports Authority of India (SAI) 3-14. Khushbu, however, won a bronze medal as a losing semifinalist.

Pushpa Tuddu of Bhahalpur became another bronze medal winner for Bihar when she lost her semifinal bout against Jyoti of Uttarakhand 0-8.

Saran clinch CK Nayudu Trophy

Patna, November 12, 2009: Saran won the Bihar state CK Nayudu inter-district under-19 school cricket tournament trophy trouncing Nalanda by six wickets at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first, Nalanda made 119 for nine wickets off 30 overs. Manish Raj (38) and Saurav (22 contributed well with the bat. Rohit and Gazal Mohammad claimed two wickets each for 19 and 17 runs respectively. Manvendar and Rahman both bagged one wicket each.

In reply, Saran raced to the target off 22.5 overs losing four wickets. Vinay (47), Vishal (15) and Sagr Iqbal (16 not out) were notable run-makers. Saurav and Gofran both took two wickets each for 21 and 14 runs respectively.

Vinay of Saran, who scored 47 runs, was declared man of the match.

Bihar's Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi distributed the prizes. Manoje Nath, Director General, Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) was the special guest at the prize-distribution function. Vivek Kumar Singh, secretary, Art, Culture and Youth Affairs presided over the function.

Muzaffarpur Police enter semifinal

Patna, November 12, 2009: Muzaffarpur Police breezed into the semi-final of the first Rameshwar Singh memorial football tournament beating Eastern Railway, Jamalpur 2-1 in the quarter-final at the New Police Lines ground here on Thursday.

Amit Kumar opened the account for Jamalpur in the 16th minute. Muzaffarpuur equalized the lead in 26th minute through Taushif Akhtar. Taushif netted the match winner in the 42nd minute.

Bihar's Noori, Pushpa box into semifinals

Patna, November 11, 2009: Bihar’s Noori Parween and Pushpa Tuddu moved into the semifinals of the 4th National junior women boxing championships in their respective weight and age group categories at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

Bhagalpur girl Noori beat Sukanti of Orissa 5-4 in the 40kg section while another Bhagalpur girl Pushpa Tuddu out boxed B Venkateshwari of Tamil Nadu 13-0 in 50 kg section.

Nalanda, Saran in CK Nayudu cricket final

Patna, November 11, 2009: Nalanda and Saran moved into the final of Bihar state inter-district CK Nayudu cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

Nalanda beat Saharsa by 16 runs in the first semifinal while Saran defeated Munger by 11 runs.
Batting first, Saran scored 128 for 9 off 25 overs while Munger could make 117 for 9 off 25 overs. In the second match Nalanda collected 133 for 6 off 25 overs and then restricted their rivals for 117 all out.

Army boys, Danapur in final

Patna, November 11, 2009: Army Boys, Danapur entered the final of first Rameshwar Singh memorial football tournament edging past Bihar Police 4-3 via penalty shootouts.

The match was locked 1-1 after the end of regulation time. Dukhi Ram, Manoj Topo and Laxman scored for Army Boys while Mannu and Rahul found the target for Bihar Police.
Manoj Topo of Army Boys was adjudged man of the match.

Rahul wins a grand double in school TT


Patna, November 11, 2009: Rahul Kumar of Patna Central School (PCS) won the junior boys singles and doubles titles to make it a grand double in the Inter-School table tennis championships at Secretariat Club hall here on Wednesday.

In junior boys’ singles final, Rahul outplayed his teammate Ankit Kumar 12-10, 14-12, 11-9, 13-11 to win the crown while in the junior boys’ doubles final Rahul pairing with Ankit Kumar drubbed Gagan Neer and Amit Kumar 11-6, 15-13, 9-11, 12-10.

Varsha Bhagyashree too earned a grand double claiming the junior girls’ singles title defeating Simmi Ghosh 11-8, 11-9, 11-8. PCS boy Ankit clinched the sub-junior boys’ singles title defeating Amit Kumar of Holy Mission School 11-4, 12-14, 11-6, 11-5.

Bihar Government’s Art, Culture and Youth Affairs secretary Vivek Kumar Singh gave away the prizes. Umnag Sinha (Don Bosco Academy) and Serin (St Karen’s School) were decalred promising players of the tournament. Seema Kumari of LVZ School was declared best coach. Bihar Government’s PRD secretary Rajesh Bhushan proposed a vote of thanks.
