East Champaran clinch Bihar Chief Minister Cup


Patna, March 11, 2010: East Champaran clinched the first Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament crown outplaying Patna by 62 runs at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first East Champaran made a challenging 205 off 40 overs. In reply, Patna could manage to score 143 off 34.3 overs.

Ravi Prakash played a magnificent knock of 65 runs off 80 balls with six boundaries and one six. Ravi anchored East Champaran innings with an exciting partnership of 104 runs for the fourth wicket with Pintu Kumar, who made 40 runs with four hits to the fence. Naveen Gupta (32, 3x4) was the other useful scorer.

Patna bowlers Gopal and Anant claimed three wickets each for 41 and 36 runs respectively. Raj Kumar Raja took two wickets for 24 runs.

In reply, Satveer Kumar (38) and Deepak Kumar (24) showed a semblance of fight for Patna. Naveen Gupta took 4 wickets for 18 runs. Naveen was named man of the match.

Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi jointly gave away the prizes. Ravi Prakash of East Champaran got the best batsman award while Naveen Gupta won the man of the series award. Gopal of Patna was named best bowler of the tournament.

Bihar’s Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Department secretary Vivek Kumar Singh welcomed the guests while Manoje Nath, director general of Bihar State Authority proposed a vote of thanks.

East Champaran take on Patna in Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket final

Patna, March 9, 2010: East Champaran will take on Patna in the Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament. In the second semifinal, East Champaran prevailed over Samastipur by two wickets at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Tuesday.

Winning the toss was not so lucky charm for Samastipur as they lost nine wickets for only 66 runs. The last wicket pair Pradeep Kumar and Sudhir Kumar put on an unbeaten partnership of 26 runs to take the score to 92 at the end of allotted 40 overs.

In reply, East Champaran too struggled to get in the required runs off 27.3 overs for the loss of eight wickets.

Prabhat helps Patna enter Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket final

Patna, March 8, 2010: Captain Prabhat Kumar took four wickets as Patna moved into the final of the Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament defeating Bhagalpur by five wickets in the first semi-final at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Monday.

Batting first, Bhagalpur could manage to score 113 runs off 35.4 overs. In track where balls were keeping low Prabhat took the advantage of the situation with his wicket to wicket deliveries.

Anand (29, 3x4), Chandan (10, 2x4), Raj Kumar Devnath (15, 2x4) and Shekhar Anand (18, 1x6) were useful contributors. Anant Prakash took claimed wickets for 23 runs. Gopal and Vivek got one wicket each.

Chasing 114 runs for victory off 40 overs, Patna lost five wickets of Prabhat Kumar (15, 3x4), Kabir Sanyal (15), Amalesh Kumar (16) for 62 runs on the board. An unbeaten sixth wicket stand of 52 runs between Deepak Kumar (23 not out, 1x6) and Dilip Kumar (18 not out) piloted Patna to reach final.

East Champaran in Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket semifinals

Patna, March 7, 2010: East Champaran became the fourth team to enter the semifinals of the Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament edging past Purnia by six runs in the last quarterfinal match at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Sunday.

Batting first East Champaran made 137 runs off 31.2 overs. Varun Ketan and Md Asif opened the East Champaran innings but Md Asif (1) was caught off medium pacer Raj Ratan Singh when team’s total was only six runs. Naveen Gupta and Varun put on 45 runs for the second wicket before Varun (15, 2x4) was caught off Gaurav Anand.

Naveen emerged as the top scorer with 36 runs. He stroked in seven boundaries. Vijay Bharati was the pick among bowlers claiming four wickets for 31 runs off eight overs.

In reply, Purnia fumbled out for 131 runs off 32.1 overs. Sheikh Samiool (23, 2x4), Shankar Kumar (12), Raj Ratan Singh (32, 3x4), Nishant (16) and Gaurav Anand (11) were the notable contributors. Rajeev Ranjan and Ravi Kumar claimed three wickets each for 18 and 19 runs respectively.

Bihar Chief Minister Cup cricket: Bhagalpur make last four grade

Patna, March 6, 2010: Bhagalpur steamrollered West Champaran by nine wickets in the quarter-final match of the Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday.

West Champaran won the toss and decided to bat. West Champaran lost quick seven wickets for only 26 runs. The eighth wicket partnership between Sumit Kumar and Shiv Ashish added 54 runs and took their team to a modest 91 off 25.5 overs. Sumit scored 43 with four boundaries. Md Saddique made 10 runs. Mehtab was the most successful bowler taking four wickets for 17 runs off six overs. Devi Shankar claimed three wickets for 19 runs.

In reply, Bhagalpur raced to the target losing one wicket off 19 overs. Vikas (13, 3x4) Anand (32 not out, 5x4) and Ashutosh (30 not out, 4x4) were the notable contributors.

Chief Minister Cup cricket: Samastipur reach semifinals

Patna, March 5, 2010: Samastipur stormed into semifinals of the Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament trouncing Buxar by six wickets at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday.

It was Sanjeev Kumar, who scripted Samastipur’s big win. Sanjeev unleashed a devastating spell of pace bowling to claim 6 wickets for 20 runs as Buxar were bundled out for 83 runs in 28.2 overs. Sanjeev was later adjudged man of the match.
Sajid Faridi scored with 31 runs. He hit four boundaries. Sumit Kumar Jha took three wickets for 23 runs.

In reply, Samastipur raced to the target off 19 overs losing four wickets.

Patna move into Chief Minister Cup cricket semifinals


Patna, March 4, 2010: Patna moved into semifinals of first Chief Minister Cup limited over cricket tournament defeating Darbhanga by 14 runs in the first quarterfinal match at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday.

Speedster Gopal virtually scripted Patna’s hard-fought win after a dismal show by its batsmen. Gopal claimed four wickets for 16 runs off 8 overs. He was later adjudged man of the match.

Batting first Patna crawled to 127 all out off 40 overs. In reply, Darbhanga could manage to make 113 all out off 29.1 overs.

In a placid batting track of the Moinul Haq Stadium, Patna batsmen failed to put on a big score. They looked more or less hapless against not so hostile Darbhanga attack. Patna lost their first two wickets for just 3 runs on the board. Dilip, who performed well in the zonal matches, showed a bit of resistance scoring 24 runs with two hits to the fence. Satveer (22) and Anant Prakash (15) were the other useful contributors.

Md Shoaib took three wickets for 21 runs. Sahadab Alam and Rajeev got two wickets each for 11 and 29 runs respectively.

In reply, Darbhanga too had a disastrous start losing their first wicket for 16 runs. After that it was a tale of who returns first back to the pavilion. Besides Gopal, Anant Prakash (2 wickets for 23) and Deepak (2 for 15) were the other successful bowlers for Patna.

Opener Shadab Alam (21) and Pawan (25) were the notable rungetters for Darbhanga.

Earlier, Art, Cultural and Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi inaugurated the tournament. Patna Central MLA Arun Sinha was the chief guest. Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Department secretary Vivek Kumar Singh, Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) Manoje Nath and other officials were present on the occasion.

Bihar beach kabaddi teams announced

Patna, March 4, 2010: Ravi Ranjan Kumar and Santoshi Kumari will lead Bihar teams for National beach kabaddi championships to be held at Swantwadi (Maharashtra) from March 7 to 11.
Announcing the teams, Bihar State Kabaddi Association (BSKA) secretary Kumar Vijay said Ramjee Upadhyay and Aftab Raza would be the coach and manager of the teams resepectively.

Women: Santoshi Kumari (captain), Neha Kumari (Buxar), Chandni Kumari (Patna), Nabya Kumari (Begusarai), Ragni Kumari (Sitamarhi) and Sweta Kumari (Bhojpur).

Men: Ravi Ranjan Kumar (captain), Ravi Kumar (Chapra), Ranjit Kumar (Buxar), Pintu Prasad, Ravi Ranjan Srivastava (East Champaran) and Viru Kumar (Patna).

Annu Kumari to lead Bihar women football team

Patna, March 4, 2010: Bihar Football Association (Jwala Prasad group) announced Bihar team for Senior National women football championships to be held in Imphal from March 7.

According to a press release of the association Annu Kumari will lead Bihar team.

Dilip helps Patna emerge zone champions

Patna, February 27, 2010: Dilip Kumar excelled with ball and bat as Patna chalked out an impressive eight-wicket win over Buxar in the Patna Zone Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday. With this win, Patna emerged zonal champions.

Batting first Buxar could manage to score 91 runs only off 27.4 overs. Dilip bowled exceedingly well to capture four wickets for 8 runs. Vivek took three wickets for eight runs while Anant Prakash got two wickets.

In reply, Kabir Sanyal and skipper Prabhat Kumar began Patna’s run chase. Kabir Sanyal (8) was first to go when he was caught off medium pacer Ajit Mishra (29 for one). Dilip joined Prabhat for the second wicket partnership and the duo took the score to 84 before Prabhat (44, 4x4) fell to the guiles of off spinner Aftab Alam (84 for 2).

Dilip remained unbeaten on 33 runs. He was later adjudged man of the match.

Buxar prove too good for Aurangabad

Patna, February 26, 2010: Buxar carved out 29-run win over Aurangabad in the Patna Zone Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday.

Batting first Buxar scored 170 runs off 32 overs. Shazad (21), Ramakant (25), Sajid (20) and Manoj (25) were the notable scorers for Buxar. Varun and Anand took four and three wickets respectively for Aurangabad.

In reply, Aurangabad could manage to score 141 runs in 29.3 overs. Vivek Kumar top scored with (27, 3x6) runs. Pankaj claimed three wickets.

Dwarika High School and BMP-5 Camp Jail School win ball badminton titles


Patna, February 25, 2010: Dwarika High School boys clinched the State-level ball badminton championships title beating SS School, Nalanda 29-25, 29-16 at Miller School ground here on Thursday.

BMP-5 Camp Jail School won the girls’ crown defeating Dayanand Girls School, Mithapur 29-12, 29-24.

Kundan, Kameshwar, Prakash and Rupak played well for Dwarika School while Navalesh, Nishant and Manoj excelled for Nalanda.

In girls’ final Annu, Sweeti, Neha and Urmila displayed their mettle with good services and effective returns for the winners while Pragati, Sonali and Mamta showed their talents for the losers.

Former chairman of Bihar Legislative Council, Professor Arun Kumar gave away the prizes. Krishna Kameshwar of Dwarika School and Navalesh of Naland were adjudged star players of the tournament in the boys’ section. Annu Kumari, Urmila Kumari (both from BMP-5 School) and Neha of Dayanand School were adjudged star players in the girls’ section.

Earlier, Dwarika High School, Mandiri and SS Vidyalaya, Nalanda moved into the final. Mandiri school boys chalked out 29-5, 29-6 victory in the first semi-final while Nalanda beat BMP-5 Camp Jail 29-12, 29-18 in the second semi-final.

Dayanand Girls School, Mithapur set up title clash with BMP-5 Camp Jail School in the girls’ final. Mithapur girls defeated Ghaneshwari Balika Vidyalaya, Danapur 21-29, 29-21, 29-9 in the first semi-final while BMP-5 Camp Jail School got the better of Ghanshyam Balika Vidyalaya, Khagaul 29-5, 29-13 in another semi-final match.

Aurangabad post 2-wicket win over Gaya

Patna, February 25, 2010: Aurangabad beat Gaya by two wickets in the Patna Zone Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Batting first Gaya made 134 runs while Aurangabad achieved the target losing eight wickets on the way.

Chief Minister Cup cricket: Buxar edge out Bhojpur

Patna, February 24, 2010: Buxar edged out Bhojpur by 11 runs in the Patna Zone Chief Minister Cup cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

Buxar scored 116 runs off 29.4 overs after recovering from early set back of losing five wickets for 25 runs. The sixth wicket partnership between skipper Pankaj and Sajid added 49 runs to guide Buxar to a somewhat respectable total.

Pankaj was the top scored with 30 runs. He hit six boundaries. Purushotam was the most successful bowler claiming five wickets for 19 runs.

In reply, Bhojpur could manage to score 105 runs in 27.4 overs. Kumar Prem made 31 runs with six fours. Pankaj took three wickets for 13 runs.
