Purnia's Jyoti is sprint queen of Bihar



Patna, November 22, 2011: Jyoti Kumari of Purnia won the women’s 100-m gold in the 81st Bihar State Open athletic championships at the Moinul Haq Stadium, here on Tuesday.

Jyoti timed 16:11 seconds. Nigam Kumari and Nitu Kumari (both Madhubani) claimed silver and bronze medals by clocking 20:97 and 22:65 seconds respectively.

Earlier, Kumud Ranjan Jha, president, Bihar Athletic Association (BAA) inaugurated the three-day meet. He also took the salute of the march past and released balloons.

KC Mahajan, secretary, Bihar Kho-Kho Association, KM Ghosh, former manager, Moinul Haq Stadium, Mirtunjay Tiwari, president, Bihar Players Association, Krishna Mohan Singh, president, Bihar Veterans’ Athletic Association, Shams Tauheed, treasurer, BAA, Rajendra Choudhary, Abhishek Kumar, Pankaj Kumar Jyoti and Md Arshad were present in the function.

BAA secretary Liaquit Ali Khan welcomed the guests while vice-president Sanjay Rai proposed a vote of thanks.
