Piyush earns a grand double in Bihar State Ranking TT Championships



Patna, August 22, 2011: Piyush D Gandhi clinched a double crown in the first Bihar State Ranking Table Tennis Championship concluded at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Tuesday.
In the men’s singles final Piyush had to fight hard against his archrival Rahul Kumar. Piyush in a marathon battle finally prevailed over Rahul 9-11, 11-9, 12-10, 5-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-8.

Earlier in the youth singles final, Piyush had also got a tough fight from Naman Kumar. However, Rahul managed to scrape past Naman 11-8, 4-11, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4, 8-11, and 11-8 to win the title.

In the women’s singles final Priya Kumari outclassed Saika Praveen of Bhojpur 12-10, 11-5, 7-11 and 11-9. In the junior boys’ final Naman Kumar defeated Piyus D Gandhi 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 and 11-7.

Naresh Chandra Mathur, AGM (retd) SBI, who was the chief guest at the closing function, gave away the prizes. Mukesh Roy, secretary, Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA) welcomed the guests while Dilip Kumar Gandhi proposed a vote of thanks. Banarsi Prasad former State Champion was also present on the occasion.
