SIS Cup: Big win for St Karen's School

St Karen’s High School chalked out an impressive six-wicket win over Ashwani Public School in the inaugural match of the 10th Randhir Verma inter-school cricket tournament for the SIS Cup at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Saturday.

Mithilesh of St Karen’s School, who claimed four wickets for 12 runs, was declared man of the match.

In the second match, RN Academy struggled hard to beat Buxar High School, Buxar by 13 runs. Vivek of RN Academy, who took three wickets for 21 runs, was adjudged man of the match.

Earlier, Ravi Nandan Sahay and Anil Sulabh, who were the chief guests, inaugurated the tournament. Organising secretary Satish Kumar Raju welcomed the guests. Pradeep Jha, Tarun Mishra, Ashish Sinha and Ashutosh Kumar were also present at the inaugural function.

Dony Polo School in Super 30 semi-finals

Dony Polo Public School moved into the semi-finals of the Super 30 Challenge Cup inter-school cricket tournament defeating Sadbhavna Academy by 180 runs at the Patna College ground here on Saturday.

Deepak of Dony Polo School, who scored 51 (7x4) runs and claimed three wickets for six runs, was declared man of the match.
Batting first, Dony Polo boys made 283 runs in 29.1 overs and then restricted their rivals for 103 runs to post a big win.

Sukhdeo cricket: Gorakhpur boys in quarter-finals

Harshit Gupta took the DAV Public School (BSEB Colony) ground by storm with his power-packed knock of 86 runs as Devine Public School, Gorakhpur entered the quarter-finals of the 24th All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament in a whirl-wind fashion thrashing Adarsh Bharati Academy by a huge margin of 119 runs here on Saturday.

Harshit knock contained 10 boundaries and one mighty six. Later, he was declared man of the match.

Adarsh Bharti Academy skipper, Rajeev Raushan won the toss and asked Gorakhpur boys to bat first. The DAV School pitch, which showed some assistance to the bowlers in previous matches, played true for batsmen, who knew how to score runs in the early morning conditions.

Eventually, Gorakhpur boys piled up 205 for eight wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Shivam Srivastava 45 (4x4, 1x6) and Pankaj Upadhaya 34 (2x4) were the other two notable batsmen. Ravindra Kumar took three wickets.

In reply, Adarsh Bharti could mange to score only 86 runs off 23.4 overs. Amit Dubey wreaked havoc on rival batting line up capturing four wickets for 21 runs.

Bihar Police Sports: BMP steal the show

Bihar Military Police (BMP) Range dominated the show in the Bihar State Police Sports meet at the Mithilesh Stadium here. BMP clinched the boxing (all weight group), basketball, Kabaddi titles on Friday.

In boxing, BMP won the team championships while Patna Range got the second spot. Patna Range claimed the volleyball title defeating Darbhanga Range 3-0 in the final. Bihar Military Police added one more feather to their crown winning the handball. BMP beat Patna Range 24-7 in the final.

In basketball, BMP got the better of Patna Range 64-32 for the crown. BMP also won kabaddi title defeating Darbhanaga in the final.

Patna Women's College Sports: Anamika sets the track ablaze to emerge champion

Anamika Kumari of BA (Part-III) hogged limelight claiming the overall championship title in the annual sports meet of the Patna Women’s College here on Friday. Anisha of B Com. Part-I was declared runner-up.

Anamika set the Women’s College track ablaze winning the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500-m race gold medals.

Virtually it was a day for joy for Patna Women’s College girls but the athletic events witnessed a stiff competition among the participants. The battle for the top position was always there as the chief guest and Art, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Renu Devi said she was very happy to see the overwhelming performance of the students.

Sports minister Renu Devi inaugurated the meet in a colourful function. Students of BA Part I performed dumb bells, BSc I and II students showed various postures of yogasana, Commerce department girls illustrated pom pom, BA Part II girls enthralled the crowd by dandia dance while Vocational course students dished out splendid show of Aerobic exercises.

In teachers’ game, Tanuja Kishore got the first prize, Amarlata Kaur bagged the second spot while Manjari took the third prize.

At the end of the meet Renu Devi gave away the prizes. Colonel Prem Prakash, Sena Medal, Group Commandar. NCC Group HQ, Patna, Professor Dr Syed I Ahson, pro Vice-Chancellor, Patna University and DN Pathak, Assistant Programme Advisor, NSS, Regional Centre, Patna graced the function. Sukhdeo cricket: Dony Polo boys in quarter-finals

Dony Polo Public School maintained their winning streak in the 24th All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament edging out Lord Buddha Public School by 33 runs in a pre-quarter-final match at the DAV Public School, BSEB Colony ground here on Friday.

Dony Ploo boys dished out an impressive show in the match. Kislay Kanan made a crackling half-century (52) with five hits to the fence when his team was asked to bat first by Lord Buddha Public School captain. Kanan was later adjudged man of the match for his brilliant display with the bat.

Dony Polo boys scored 162 for nine wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Manish was the pick of the bowlers claiming three wickets.

In reply, Lord Buddha boys stumbled out for 129 in 26.1 overs. Nilesh bagged three wickets for 16 runs in his five overs spell.

Prem Kumar Suman of Holy Mission School stroked in a quick-fire 82 off 42 balls to propel his side to 163 runs all out off 28.3 overs. Prem’s knock was studded with four boundaries and eight sixes. Later, he was declared man of the match. Kabir Sanyal bagged four wickets for St Karen’s School.

In reply, St Karen’s could manage to score 113 runs off 26.1 overs. Tushar top scored with 55 (8x4) runs. Avinash took two wickets for nine runs.

Concept Academy in Challenge Cup semis

Concept Academy moved into the semi-finals of the Super 30 Challenge Cup inter-school cricket tournament beating Birsa Munga School by nine wickets at the Patna College ground here on Friday.

Suman of Concept Academy, who claimed five wickets for 16 runs, was declared man of the match.Batting first, Birsa Munda boys scored 53 runs off 14.2 overs. In reply, Concept Academy lads reached the target losing only one wicket.

Earlier on Thursday, Dony Polo Public High School entered the semi-finals defeating Don Bosco School, Darbhanga by five wickets.

Amit of Dony Polo, who claimed five wickets for 20 runs, was named man of the match.Batting first, Don Bosco boys scored 90 runs off 19.1 overs. In reply, Dony Polo boys raced to the target in 13.4 overs for the loss of five wickets.

APWAD Inter-school chess from December 4

Patna, November27

Association for Peoples Welfare and Development (APWAD) will organize the 4th Airtel Mastermind prize-money inter-school chess tournament from December 4 to 7 at Rajendra Nagar High School hall here.

Tournament director Rakesh Ranjan said several international and national rated players had confirmed their participation in the 4-day meet that will be played in Swiss league system.

Ranjan said top players from Vaishali, Chapra, Gopalganj, Bhojpur, Muzaffarpur, Purnina, Katihar, Saharsa, Gaya, Rohtas and Bhagalpur had shown their interests to take part in the tournament.

He said, organizing committee had decided to provide free lodging facility to outstation players. Refreshments would also be given during the play, he added.

Sukhdeo cricket: Bokaro School in quarter-finals

Bokaro High School, Bokaro became the first team to enter the quarter-finals of the 24th All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament defeating Don Bosco Academy, Patna by five wickets at the DAV Public School, Board Colony ground here on Wednesday.

Batting first Don Bosco Academy boys looked uncomfortable against the accurate attack of Bokaro School and lost wickets at regular interval to be all out for a paltry 92 runs off 27.4 overs. Opener Sachin Sinha top scored with his 21 runs. He struck two boundaries.

Spinners Mithilesh, Sarvesh and Mani brought in the Don Bosco collapse sharing eight wickets among them. Mithilesh was the pick of the bowlers claiming four wickets for 19 runs off 6 overs. Sarvesh and Mani claimed two wickets each for 16 and 7 runs respectively.

In reply, Bokaro boys suffered a jolt losing their opener Sarvesh for just one run on the board. Firoz and Mani combined together for the second wicket to put on a 72-run partnership paving the way for a resounding victory. Firoz made 36 with five hits to the fence while Mani scored 30 with four boundaries.

Civil Services carrom: Nasir, Geeta crowned champs

Central Secretariat, Delhi clinched a grand double in the All-India Civil Services carrom championships winning the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Wednesday.

Md Nasir Hussain of central Secretariat, Delhi won the men’s singles title defeating RD Dinesh Babu of RSB, Hyderabad 25-8, 25-13 while Geeta Shankar (also from CS Delhi) struggled hard to down her teammate S Rajyalakshmi 25-22, 25-20 for the women’s singles crown.

Men’s singles final was an one-sided affair as National seniors runner-up RD Dinesh Babu failed to live up to his expectations. Dinesh took 6-0 lead in the first set but failed to hold his nerves as Md Nasir played a crisp and well measured game to outplay his rival 25-8 in the first set.

In the second game, Dinesh Babu looked a bit in a hurry as he went for a slam and floundered. Md Nasir kept his cool and played his natural game to outsmart his fancied opponent 25-13.

Earlier, in the men’s singles semi-finals, Md Nasir Hussain beat V Anil Kumar of RSB, Hyderabad 13-25, 25-4, 25-16 and RD Dinesh Babu prevailed over Jitendra Kale of RSB, Mumbai in a three-set match 25-17, 18-25 and 25-21.

Bihar Government’s Building Construction Minister Chhedi Paswan, who was the chief guest at closing function, gave away the prizes. Anjani Kumar Singh, principal secretary, Human Resources Department presided over the function.

Bihar Police meet: Anurag Karketa shines again

Anurag Karketa got his second gold in the Bihar Police sports meet when the Bihar Military Police lad won the 5000 m gold medal at the Mithilesh Stadium here on Wednesday. Anurag had won the 100 m gold on the first day of the meet on Tuesday.

Anurag clocked 17:32:79 seconds while Shailenra Kumar of Patna range, who claimed the second place, clocked 17:37:68 seconds. Jitendra Kumar of Muzaffarpur range took the third spot clocking 18:03:87 seconds.

International Krishna Kumar Sharma of Patna range as expected won the gold in shot put with a throw of 12:95 metres. Nand lal Singh of Patna range and Mukesh Kumar of BMP captured the silver and bronze medals respectively.

In women’s 100-m race, Uma Singh of crime investigation department bagged the gold clocking 14:16 seonds. Shanti Tigga of Muzaffarpur stood second with a timing of 15:44 seconds while Punam of Bhagalpur range earned a bronze medal in 19:46 seconds.

International Archana Bara of Muzaffarpur range was way ahead in shot put claiming the gold with a throw of 10:05 meters. Jyoti S Nayar got the second spot while Manisha Jaiswal took the third position in the same event.

Anurag Karketta of Bihar Military Police Range clinched the 100-m gold in the Bihar State Police Games meet at the Mithilesh Stadium, Phulwarisharif on Tuesday. Diwakar Prasad (Patna Range) and Md Haroon (Muzaffarpur Range) got the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Earlier, DGP, DN Gautam declared the meet open in a colourful function marked by a march-past of participating teams.

Pradeep to lead Bihar disabled cricket team

Pradeep Kumar will lead Bihar in the 20th National disabled cricket championship to be held in Andhra Pradesh from December 3, according to a Press release of the Bihar Cricket Association for the disabled.

Bihar Rural Games: Amit wins 1500-m gold

Amit Kumar of Jamui raced to glory in the 1500-m race of the Bihar State rural sports meet group III at Rajendra Stadium in Chapra on Tuesday.

Dashrath Kumar of Patna got the second position while Haresh Kumar of Buxar finished third.
In the women’s 800-m race, Komal Kumari of Patna won the gold. Mamta Kumari of Samastipur and Jaya Bharati of Katihar bagged the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Earlier, Saran District Magistrate PK Shah inaugurated the three-day meet. About 1500 athletes from 38 districts of Bihar were participating in the games.

Civil Services carrom: Geeta, Rajyalakshmi in final

It was an all Central Secretariat, Delhi affair in the women’s singles final in the All India Civil Services carrom championships at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here as Geeta Shankar set up summit showdown with her teammate Rajyalakshmi here on Tuesday.

Geeta Shankar thrashed K Venkatraman of Delhi 25-0, 25-0 in the first semi-final while Rajyalakshmi had a little bit trouble to prevail over Rinki of RSB, Kanpur 25-9, 25-7 in the other semi-final of the day.

Earlier, the Delhi pair of Geeta Shankar and Rajyalakshmi annexed the women doubles crown defeating Rinki and Kavita of RSB, Kanpur 25-5, 25-7.

Md Nasir (Central Secretariat, Delhi), Anil Kumar and Dinesh Babu (both from RSB, Hyderabad) and Jitendra Kale (RSB, Mumbai) moved into the men's singles semi-finals.

Till date the tournament witnessed two Black and five White Slams scored by the participants. RD Dinesh Babu and Md Nasir pocketed Black Slams while RD Dinesh Babu, Sandeep Bhatnagar, Shashidharan, Blessington and Shenbar Long netted the White Slams.

Sukhdeo cricket: Holy Mission boys in last 16

Holy Mission School, Samastipur earned a berth in the pre-quarter-finals of the 24th All India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament edging out Sri Mahanth Harihar Das High School, Patna by two wickets in a third round encounter at the DAV Public School, BSEB Colony ground here on Tuesday.

Holy Mission School captain Santosh, who scored 41 runs with six boundaries, was adjudged man of the match.

Holy Mission School won the toss and asked Mahant Harihar Das boys to bat first. They scored 151 runs off 29.5 overs. Harish (26), Sanddep (20) and Ranjeet (21) were the useful contributors. Mr Extra top scored with 40 runs. Atmeswar and Santosh bagged three and two wickets each for 24 and 14 runs respectively.

In reply, Samastipur boys gathered the required runs in 25.4 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Manish (25) and Avinash (23 not out) shone with the bat. Sandeep claimed three wickets.

Quarter-finalists have been spotted in the Bihar Cricket Association Twenty20 cricket tournament being organized at eight different venues of the state.

Patna, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, Muzffarpur, Samastpur, Bhagalpur, Saharsa and Saran district teams made their grades for the quarter-final stage of the tournament winning their respective matches on Tuesday

At Patna College ground, Patna chalked out a big 131 runs win over Jamui. Batting first Patna made impressive 178 runs for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs and then bundled out their rivals for a paltry 47 runs off 11.2 overs.

Indrajeet (39), Mridul (25) gave a solid 70-run opening stand for Patna. Indrajeet’s knock contained five nicely executed boundaries and one might heave over the fence. Kundan Gupta , Nishant and Aditya did some lusty hitting at the close of the Patna innings to take the total to 178. Kundan Gupta slammed a 19-ball 29 with three boundaries and one six. Nishant too played a blazing knock of 39 off 22 balls while Aditya struck 29 off only 10 balls. Sawan Arya captured three wickets for 35 runs.

In reply, Jamui batsmen bowed to the pace bowling of Arvinda Jha, who claimed five wickets for 9 runs off 3.2 overs. Rehan Khan got two wickets for 4 runs.

Meanwhile, Bihar Cricket Association secretary Ajay Narain Sharma said, the quarter-final league matches will be held at Chapra from November 30 to December 7.

St Karen's School got their appointed place in the pre-quarter-finals of the 24th All India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament trouncing MS Memorial School (seniors) by nine wickets in a third round match at the DAV Public School, BSEB Colony ground here on Monday.

Jainendra of St Karen's School, who claimed four wickets for 13 runs, was declared man of the match.

St Karen's School won the toss and asked MS Academy to bat first. MS Memorial boys managed to score 85 runs off 25.1 overs. Ravi Sinha (22, 3x4), Ravi (14) and Ashish (14) provided some useful contributions. Jainendra and Kamlesh took four and two wickets each for 13 and 14 runs respectively.

In reply, St Karen's School boys surpassed the target in 22.1 overs for the loss of one wicket. Dharamveer got the lone wicket for MS Memorial School.

BCA T20 cricket: Jamui too good for Nalanda

Jamui edged past Naland by 32 runs in the Patna leg of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) Twenty20 cricket tournament at the Patna College ground here on Monday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Jamui made a modest 156 for 9 off 20 overs. Sandeep Sanyal’s 46 was the high light of Jamui innigs. Prince Kumar (34) and Om Prakash (20) were the other noteworthy contributors. Saurav, Ajay and Akhilesh all took two wickets apiece.

In reply, Nalanda boys crumbled to 124 for 9 at the end of stipulated 20 overs. Raju (27) and Neeraj (20) did the bulk of scoring. Amrendra virtually ran through the Nalanda innings capturing four wickets for 18 runs.

Four Bihar Secretariat players Vinod Singh Gunjial, Khushi Gopal kamath, Sujit Kumar Sinha and Alok Kumar moved into the next round of the men’s singles event of the All-India Civil services carrom championships at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Monday.

Sujit Kumar Sinha took two sets to down Sandeep Bhatnagar of RSB, Faridabad 21-11, 25-10 while Vinod Kumar Singh Gujial beat Md Shamim of Jharkhand Secretariat 14-12, 25-11.

The day’s highlights were two grand slam scored by Dinesh Babu (RSB Hyderabad) and Shashidharan (RSB Chennai) during the play.

In the women’s doubles, two pairs of Central Secretariat, Delhi and one pair each from Tripura Secretariat and RSB Kanpur entered the semi-finals.

In the men’s doubles, two combinations of RSB Hyderabad and one each from RSB Indore and RSB Chennai earned their semi-final berths.

BCA T20 cricket: Big win for Patna

Patna dished out a convincing 135-run win over Sheikhpura in the opening match of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) inter-district T20 championships at the Patna College ground here on Sunday.

The fortnight-long championships began at the eight different venues of the State simultaneously.

Earlier, Patna College principal RB Singh inaugurated the Patna leg of the tournament. Dr Madhu Sharma, Sanjay Kumar Singh and BCA office-bearers including its secretary Ajay Narain Sharma were present at the inaugural function.

Batting first Patna piled up mammoth 202 runs off 20 overs. Captain Rajesh Sinha played brilliant knock of 65 for Patna. In reply, Sheikhpura were all out for 67 runs off 19.5 overs.

At Bhagalpur: Begusarai beat Purnia by seven wickets.

Central Secretariat, Delhi, won a grand double in the All-India Civil Services carrom championships as their women team claimed the team title defeating Tripura Secretariat 3-0 in the final at the Secretariat Badminto Hall here on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, Central Secretariat, Delhi, men team won the team title.
In the women’s team semi-finals, Central Secretariat, Delhi beat RSB Kolkata while Tripura Secretariat outplayed Karanataka Secretariat to set up the summit showdown.

Civil Services carrom: Central Secretariat, Delhi claim men team championships crown

Defending champions Central Secretariat (Delhi) retained the men’s team title of the All-India Civil Services carrrom tournament defeating RSB Hyderabad 2-1 at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Saturday.

Central Secretariat began with a fluent win in the first singles as Sanjeev Bhatnagar despite losing first set at 11-12 won the next two sets 25-8, 25-0 and the match. Md Nasir of Delhi increased the margin in the second defeating RD Dinsh Babu 15-20, 16-12, 16-7. The Hyderabad pair of V Anil Kumar and VSNV Prasad beat the Delhi pair of Jaipal Singh and Virendra Singh 25-11, 25-15.

Earlier in the semi-finals of the same event, RSB Hyderabad beat RSB Chennai 3-0 while Central Secretariat, Delhi beat Central Secretariat Tripura 3-0.

There was a bit of joy for hosts Bihar as their pair of Sujit Kumar Sinha and Khushi Gopal Kamath entered the pre-quarter-finals of men’s doubles defeating Baroda pair of Avani Kumar and Sunil Kumar 25-2, 25-0.

In the women’s team event, Tripura Secretariat, Central Secretariat, RSB Kolkata and Karnataka Secretariat earned semi-final berths topping their respective pools.

Yellow Panthers clinch PWC throwball title

Patna, November 23, 2008
Yellow Panthers won the Patna Women’s College annual sports meet throwball event title defeating Red Robins in an exciting three-set final 15-8, 11-15 and 15-12 at their College ground here on Saturday.

Yellow Panthers took the first set easily but Red Robins bounced back to capture second set at 15-11. The third set was equally poised as both the teams fought hard to earn points. Eventually Yellow Panthers clinched the set and the match at 15-12.

Anumeh Prakash of Yellow Panthers and Kamana Bharati of red Robins were declared best all rounder and best scorer of the tournament.

Before the start of the final, players were introduced to Gauri Das, assistant director, art culture and youth affairs department. Patna Women’s College principal Sister Doris D Souza and Throball Association of Bihar secretary Neeraj Kumar Pappu were present at the final match.

Eastern Command clinch hockey title
Eastern Command won the Inter-Command hockey trophy defeating Western Command 1-0 at Dung Dung Stadium, Danapur, here on Saturday.

After three days of low scoring matches, the Saturday’s third round match of the 24th All-India Sukhdeo Narain inter-school cricket tournament witnessed a relatively high-scoring match at the DAV Public School (Board Colony) ground here. Dony Polo Public School emerged as the winners beating Prakritik Residential School by two wickets. With this win, Dony Polo boys moved into the pre-quarter-final stage of the tournament.

Nishant of Dony Polo, who scored 67 runs with the seven boundaries, was declared man of the match.

Asked to bat first, Prakritik School boys made a challenging 169 for three wickets off 30 overs. Mangal played a decent unbeaten innings of 71runs with four hits to the fence. Vivek and Kislay took one wicket each.

Red Robins will take on Yellow Panthers in the throwball event final of the Patna Women’s College annual sports meet. In the semi-finals on Friday, Red Robins struggeled hard to down Carmel House 13-15, 15-6, 15-13 while Yellow Panther also took three sets to overcome spirited challenge from White Tiger 15-4, 13-15 and 15-2.

Asha and Sheetal displayed some good techniques, speed and stamina to put Carmel House on top in the first set. Red Robins combined well in the second and third sets with some remarkable display of throwball from Surabhi, Neha and Ankita and won the two consecutive sets and the match.

Yellow Panthers were on top in the first set against White Tigers as captain Anisha Singh and Arpita did some excellent work with their service and defence. White Tiger bounced back in the second as Aparna Rani and Jasmin played brilliantly. In the third and deciding set, Yellow Panthers virtually toyed with their rivals and won the set easily at 15-2.

Bihar sub-jr volleyball:Banka girls on top

Hosts Banka and Bhagalpur won the girls and boys’ titles respectively in the Bihar State sub-junior volleyball championships here on Friday. On the final day of the three-day meet, Banka outplayed Patna while Bhagalpur drubbed Munger for the crowns.

The Bihar teams that will take part in the National sub-junior volleyball championships in Jammu have also been announced by the Bihar Volleyball Association.

Sukhdeo cricket: Adarsh Bharati boys move up

It was another low-scoring match in the ongoing 24th Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the DAV Public School (Board Colony) ground here on Friday. It seemed the pitch had been playing the trick. Wear and tear of the pitch were a definite possibility as the matches had been played without a break on the same pitch for the last 15 days.

Adarsh Bharati Academy, Daudpur, however, found themselves a bit lucky to survive on this dicey pitch as they moved into the pre-quarter-final round of the tournament defeating Satyam International School by three wickets.

Batting first Satyam International School boys could gather only 85 on the board losing all the wickets. After surviving the pace battery of Adarsh Bharati School, Sataym boys fell to the guiles of Rajeev Raushan and Ravinder. Both the spinner took three wickets each giving away 7 and 5 runs respectively.

Openers Aalind Kumar (21, 4x4) and Deepak (27, 3x4) were the two batsmen reaching the double figures. The two together brought in a 42-run stand for the first wicket. After the fall Aalind, wickets fell like nine pins bringing in a sudden collapse of the entire team for 85 runs.

Adarsh Bharati’s run chase was too disastrous. They lost five wickets for only 33 runs. Sataym bowlers Suman Kumar and Yuvraj Singh were spitting venom. Suman and Yuvraj finished the day with three wickets each for 21 runs each respectively.

Middle-order batsman Saurav Kumar held the crumbling innings together scoring unbeaten 41 (6x4) runs. He was later adjudged man of the match.

Civil Services carrom: Fluent win for Bihar

Bihar Secretariat began their campaign in style defeating Jharkhand 3-0 in the men’s team championships event of the All-India Civil Services carrom championships at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Friday.

Bihar’s Alok Kumar, Khushi Gopal Kamath won their respective singles matches easily while the pair of Sujit and Jagdish increased the victory margin winning the doubles match.

Earlier, Bihar Chief Secretary RJM Pillay inaugurated the tournament in a colourful opening function, marked by the march past of the participating teams.

Twenty five men and 14 women teams have been taking part in the meet.
The tournament is being organized with eight pools in the men’s section and four pools in the women’s section. One men’s team from each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals while one team from each pool will make the semi-final line up for the women’s section. Hosts Bihar men have been placed in pool G.

Sukhdeo cricket: Don Bosco Academy in last 16

Piyush Ranjan wreaked havoc on Gyan Bharati Public School taking five wickets for only 16 runs as Don Bosco Academy stormed in to the pre-quarter-finals of the 24th Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the DAV Public School (BSEB) Colony ground here on Thursday.

Piyush's devastating spell brought an unceremonious collapse to Gyan Bharati Public School innings after they were asked to bat first by Don Bosco Academy captain. Gyan Bharati boys could muster 65 runs off 17.5 overs. Kumar Nitesh was the lone batsman from the losing team to reach double figures (10). Sundries top scored with 21 runs. Ankur claimed three wickets for 7 runs.

In reply, Don Bosco boys too got some early jolts against some probing attack of Gyan Bharati’s Ankur, who finished the day with 6 wickets for 13 runs. But Sachin (19) and Abhishek (21) stemmed the slide as Don Bosco boys surpassed the rivals score with three wickets in hands off 14.3 overs.

Raushan of RMR Seminary, who scored 54 runs and took two wickets, was declared man of the match. Batting first, Concept Academy made 116 runs in 24.5 overs. In reply, RMR Seminary reached the target in 18.1 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Patna TT: Grand double for Lekh Raj

Patna, November 20
Lekh Raj crowned a double claiming the men and junior boys’ singles titles of the Patna district table tennis championships, at the Bihar Young Men's Institute here on Wednesday.

Lekh played a simply superb game in both the finals. In men's singles, Lekh overcame a stiff challenge from arch rival Kishan Raj in a six-game battle 6-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8, 9-11 and 11-8. In the junior boys’ final, Lekh tamed Ankit Tarve 11-6, 11-9, 11-6 and 11-9. Anmol won the sub-junior boys’ singles title defeating Ankit Kumar in a four-game fight 8-11, 11-6, 11-8 and 14-12.

Sangeeta Singh, principal, Arya Kanya Vidyalaya, who was the chief guest at closing function, gave away the prizes. Mukesh Roy, secretary, Bihar Table Tennis Association welcomed the guests.

Earlier on Tuesday, Amit Kumar annexed the cadet boys’ singles crown defeating Saurav Kumar 11-9, 12-10, 11-7 while Ritesh Pandey, Lekh Raj, Raj Kumar Singh and Kishan Raj entered the men's singles semi-finals.

Patna Central School (PCS) found a place in the the quarter-finals of the Super 30 Challenge Cup inter-school cricket tournament beating Gayatri International by one wicket at the Patna College ground here on Wednesday.

Kundan of PCS, who remained unbeaten on 55 runs and took two wickets, was declared man of the match.

Gayatri International School scored 149 all out in 24.3 overs while PCS chased in successfully for the loss of nine wickets.

Civil services carrom meet
Defending champions Dinesh Khedekar of RSB, Mumbai and Sharmila, RSB, Chennai have been given top seeding in the men and women’s section respectively of the All India Civil Services carrom tournament beginning at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here from November 21, according to tournament convenor Ashok Kumar Mishra.

He said Tripura Secretariat, RSB, Hyderabad, RSB, Ahmedabad, Gujarat Secretariat and Uttar Pradesh Secretariat teams had already arrived here to take part in the meet.

BD Evening College claim MU cricket title
BD Evening College won the Magadh University (MU) inter-college cricket championship title beating Jagat Narain Lal College (JNLC) by 85 runs at the Sanjay Gandhi Stadium here on Tuesday.

Batting first, BD Evening College piled up 165 for the loss of eight wickets off 30 overs. In reply, Jagat Narain Lal College stumbled out for 65 runs. Dr Subhash Prasad Singh, principal, BD Evening College and Dr Babban Singh, principal, Jagat Narain Lal College jointly distributed the prizes.

Tenni-koit tourney
Star India women's tenni-koit championship will be held here from December 8, according to Niraj Kumar Pappu, secretary, Bihar Tenni-Koit Association.
He said chairman-cum-managing director of Star India Construction Company, SB Prasad, had been named chairman of the organising committee. The last date for entry is November 30. The championship will be organised in U-12, U-14 and U-16 age group sections. About 200 players are likely to take part in the championship.

Sukhdeo cricket: Vivek scripts Holy Mission win

Vivek Kumar displayed a brilliant all-round performance to guide Holy Mission High School into the third round of the 24th All India Sukhdo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the DAV Public School, BSEB Colony ground here on Wednesday.

Vivek captured four wickets for 25 runs and later, with the bat he remained unbeaten on 11 as Holy Mission High School notched up a three-wicket victory over Sambhavana Residential School in a second round match. Vivek Kumar was adjudged man of the match.

Batting first, Sambhavana boys scored a paltry 107 runs off 19.4 overs. Mr Extra top scored with 40 runs. Abhishek Kumar (11), Ashutosh (27, 5x4) and Prushotam (16 not out) were the other batsmen to reach the double figures. Manish Kumar, Prabhat Kumar and Prakash Kumar all took two wickets.

In reply, Holy Mission boys gathered the required runs in 24.2 overs losing seven wickets on the way. Atmeshwar Kumar’s 30 was the highlight of winning team’s innings. Abhishek Kumar took three wickets for 21 runs for the losers.

Ravi Sinha of MS Academy, who excelled with the bat with 74 (7x4) runs, was adjudged man of the match.

Batting first, Ms Academy boys made 168 for the loss of six wickets off 30 overs. Ravi Shankar (39) and Rishi Sinha (14) were the other notable run getters. Satish captured wo wickets for Millennium Convent.

In reply, Millennium Convent boys could muster 117 runs off 18.3 overs losing all the wickets. Satish 22 (5x4) and Ajit scored 21 gave some brief resistance against probing attack of MS Academy. Abhinav was the wrecker-in-chief claiming four wickets for 33 runs.

National sub-jr badminton: Sameer stamps his authority;grand double for Rituparna and Syali

It’s a mission accomplished for Sameer Verma.
The Madhya Pradesh lad, who came in Patna with an envious crown of top seed in the sub-junior boys’ singles, proved he is the number one of Indian badminton in his group. Sameer, despite losing the first set against his state mate Pratul Joshi, held his nerves together to claim the title 21-23, 21-19, 21-16 at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Sunday.

Sameer looked a little bit shaky in the opening game. His service that was his main weapon throughout the tournament misfired on umpteen times. Pratul took the advantage of the situation to give his reputed rival a jolt in the first game.

Sameer, however, accepted the fact after the match. “Yes my service was not up to the mark in first game”, he said. “I was not nervous after losing the first game. I worked on my service, kept my nerves together for the final assault”, he added.

The final day of the seven-day long 22nd National sub-junior and mini badminton championships kept the spectators spell bound as the future of Indian badminton fought for each and every points to make it worthy summit showdowns to watch.

West Bengal’s whiz-kid Rituparna Das celebrated the day pocketing two titles in mini girls’ events. She won the mini girls’ singles crown defeating Ruchika Shivani (Karanataka) 21-9, 21-13. She later, combining with Ruchika Shivani bagged the mini girls’ doubles title defeating the pair of V Harika and Karthik Reshma.

Rituparna was more than happy with her performance. “I’m delighted on my show here in Patna. I want to continue this performance in future events”, she said.
Arslan Naqvi, a fighter to the core UP lad, stamped his authority in the mini boys’ singles final dismantling the top seed Aditya Joshi of Madhya Pradesh 21-7, 17-12, 21-14.

Andhra Pradesh pair of GD Ganga Rao and Purudmiraj annexed the mini boys’ doubles title outsmarting another pair of their own state Upendra and Chaitanya 21-18, 21-16.

The boys’ doubles title, however, won by the Andhra Pradesh pair of Venkatesh and Prahash defeating the cream Madhya Pradesh pair Sameer Verma and Pratul Joshi 20-22, 21-18, 21-8.

Syali Rane of Maharashtra, the top seed in sub-junior girls’ section justified her billing as she claimed the coveted crown outplaying Sindhu (Andhra Pradesh) 21-19, 21-15.
Syali made it a grand double. The Mahrashtra lass, pairing with teammate Tanvi Lad defeated Andhra combination of Sindhu and Manish 21-15, 21-16 to capture the sub-junior girls’ doubles title.

Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, who was the chief guest at the prize-distribution function, gave away the prizes. Union Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Union Minister of State for Water Resources Jai Prakash Yadav, Ram Kripal Yaday (MP), Shyam Rajak (MLA), Anjani Kumar Singh (IAS), LC Gupta, vice-president, Badminton Association of India (BAI) and SA Shetty (BAI joint secretary) were present at the function. Bihar Badminton Association, president, Abdul Bari Siddiqui presided over the function. Bihar Badminton Association secretary KN Jaiswal anchored the closing function and proposed a vote of thanks.

Cash prizes

Speaking on the occasion, Lalu Prasad announced cash prizes of Rs 25,000 each for the winners and runners up in all groups. The cash parizes would be given by Railways, he added.

St Karen's High School recorded a dazzling eight-wicket victory over Leeds Asian School in a second round match of the 24th All India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the DAV Public School, BSEB Colony ground here on Sunday.

Kabir Sanyal of St Karen's, who claimed four wickets for seven runs, was declared man of the match.

Batting first Leeds Asian School scored not so challenging 121 runs in 28.4 overs. Ganesh Gautam slammed a delightful half-century (51) with eight boundaries. Anurag took two wickets for 20 runs.

Needing 122 runs for victory in 30 overs, St Karen's boys overcame the target in 18 overs losing two wickets. Akash hammered a blazing half-century (58) with five boundaries and three mighty heaves over the fence.

Patna district TT begins
Amit Kumar outplayed Avinash Kumar Bhashkar 11-9, 11-3, 11-3 in the cadet boys’ singles of the Patna district table tennis championship at the Bihar Young men's Institute (BYMI) here on Sunday.

Earlier, Krishna Mohan Sinha, vice-president, Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA) inaugurated the meet. Dilip Kumar Gandhi, secretary, Patna District Table Tennis Association (PDTTA), Prem Kumar, vice-president, BTTA, former state table tennis champion, Amitabh Sinha and former international player Sanjeev Shankar graced the inaugural function.

Md Ayaz wins badminton title
Md Ayaz won the singles title (18 to 40 years age group) of the BS Thapa memorial badminton tournament, organized by Union Bank Staff Recreation and Welfare Club at Post and Telegraph Recreation Club courts on Sunday.

Ayaz beat Rohan Kumar Singh in the final. In the 40to 50 years age group section, Satyendra Prasad took the title defeating AK Verma. Above 50 years crown went in favour of SK Bhargava while PN Musatafi got the second spot.

PDCA league begins: Exciting win for Moonlight

Official cricket in Patna began on Sunday with the inauguration of junior division league organized by Patna District Cricket Association, an affiliate body of the Bihar Cricket Association that recently got a status of associate membership from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

In the opening match, Moonlight Cricket Club notched up an exciting 14-run victory over Youngsters Cricket Club (YCC), Rajendra Nagar at the Patna Science College ground.

Batting first after winning the toss, Moonlight stumbled out for 83 runs off 32.1 overs. In reply, YCC could muster 69 runs in 22 overs.

Earlier, Prof Deepak Kumar Sharma, Principal, Patna Science College inaugurated the Patna cricket league. Nearly all PDCA office-bearers including Amarnath Singh (president), Ajay Narain Sharma (secretary). Alok Raj (vice-president), Ajiteshwar Prasad Jittu (former secretary), Vijay Narain Chunnu, Arun Kumar, Ram Kumar, Jai Narain Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, Jairam Prasad, Sunil Singh and Premballabh Sahay were present at the opening function.

Bihar wrestling: Kaimur emerge champions

Kaimur wrestlers hogged limelight clinching the overall championships title with four gold medals in the 54th Bihar State Open wrestling championships at Ram Dayal Stadium, Mahuar (Kaimur) on Sunday.

The meet that was organized in seven weight categories saw Kaimur grapplers grabbing four gold, two silver and three bronze meads to make it a total 9 medals.

Bihar Police finished runners-up with one gold, 2 silver medals while. Buxar with one gold and as many silver and bronze medals and Jehanabad with one gold, one silver and one bronze medals shared the third position. Patna with one silver and two bronze medals got the fourth place.

Earlier, All-India Wrestling Federation vice-president Vrijbhushan Singh inaugurated the meet. Bihar Wrestling Association top office-bearers Dasarath Yadav, Awadhesh Singh and Kameshwar Singh were present during the championships. Mohania SDM Nagina Sharma distributed the prize. He also felicitated retired wrestlers of Kaimur. About 200 wrestlers from all over Bihar participated in the championship.

Sameer Verma of Madhya Pradesh justified his seeding to be the number one in junior boys singles as he had no hiccups to move into the final of the 22nd National sub-junior and mini badminton championships at the Secretariat Badminton Hall here on Saturday.

Sammer, now will face his state mate Pratul Joshi for the sub-junior crown. In the girls’ sub-junior singles final, Sidhu (AP) will take on Syali Rane (Maharashtra).

Bengal’s Rituaparna Das will face Reshma Kartik (Karnataka) in the mini girls’ singles final while Aditya Joshi (MP) will lock horns with Harshil Dani (Maharashtra) for the mini boys’ singles title.

Ever agile with her quick-silver reflexes Rituparna overcame a stiff challenge from Harika (AP 21-17, 21-15 while Reshma Kartik too sweated it out a bit against her state mate Shivani 21-16, 21-15 in the semi-finals.

The mini boys’ semi-finals saw Aditya Joshi (MP) got the better of Md Ehsash (Assam) 12-8, 21-13 while Arslan Naqvi of Uttar Pradesh took three sets to down Harshil Dani of Maharashtra 21-14, 13-21 and 21-14. Aditya will now take on Naqvi for the mini boys' crown. In sub-junior girls’ singles semi-finals, Sidhu (AP beat ED Jacob (Kerala) 21-11, 19-21, 21-19 and Syali Rane (Maharashtra) beat Riya Pillay (Andhra Pradesh) 21-10, 21-15.
