Uttar Pradesh boys and Bihar girls clinch carrom titles

Dehradun, December 29, 2010: Uttar Pradesh and Bihar clinched the boys and girls team championship titles respectively in the 39th Junior National and Inter-State carrom championship at Agarwal Dharmshala here on Wednesday.

Uttar Pradesh blanked Hyderabad 3-0 in the boys’ final. In the first singles Syed Wahib Ali of Uttar Pradesh beat D. Kalyan of Hyderaabd 21-1, 21-5 while in the second singles Mohd. Arif of UP got the better of K Sriniwas of Hyderabad 19-15, 16-15.

Abdul Rahman and Mohd. Kashif of Uttar Pradesh outplayed V Naresh and S Sai of Hyderabad 14-11, 21-13 to win in the doubles final.

In girls’ team championship final, Bihar recaptured the trophy defeating Tamil Nadu 3-0. In the first singles Deepika Sinha of Bihar tamed M. Kanagdhara of Tamil Nadu 21-11, 21-10. In the second singles Kajal Kumari of Bihar struggled to beat P Jayashree of Tamil Nadu 11-3, 7-11, 21-7. In the doubles Suruchi and Bibha of Bihar defeated S. Adhulya and Jyothi Pravalika of Tamil Nadu at 21-9, 19-3.

Earlier, Anoop Gupta of Uttarakhand defeated Jitesh of Haryana in Youth boys singles first round 16-19, 18-11, 16-12.

Hyderabad and UP entered the final of boys’ team championship. In the first semi-final, Hyderabad defeated Tamil Nadu 2-1. In the first singles K Srinivas of Hyderabad even letting down in first game by 9-18 improved a lot in second and third game. He won the second game by 21-5 and the 3rd by 18-16 against K Tamil Selvan.

In the 2nd singles D Kalyan of Hyderabad lost to P Mahendran 11-13, 0-21. In the doubles V. Naresh and S Sai of Hyderabad defeated Tamil Nadu pair of V R Venkateswaran and A Vigneswaran 4-17, 19-05, 20-10.

In the second semifinal, UP defeated Chandigarh 2-1. In the first singles Syed Wahib Ali of UP defeated Hassan of Chandigarh 6-21, 21-3, 21-9. In the second singles Mohd. Arif of UP lost to Talib of Chandigarh at 1-21, 21-17, 7-21. In the doubles, Abdul Rehman and Mohd. Kashif of U.P. defeated Arish and Saqib of Chandigarh 19-0, 21-0.

In the girls singles semifinals, Tamil Nadu and defending champions Bihar registered their victories. In the first semi Final Tamil Nadu defeated Maharashtra by 2-1. In the first singles M Kanagdhara of Tamil Nadu lost to Vrushali Patil of Maharashtra 5-20, 0-21. In the second singles P Jayashree of Tamil Nadu defeated Maitreyee Gogate of Maharashtra 18-0, 21-8. In the doubles S Adulya and Jyuothi Pravalika of Tamil Nadu beat Neha Vemul and Shreya Valanju of Maharashtra 21-1, 21-0.

In the second semifinal Bihar defeated Chandigarh 2-1. In the first singles Kajal Kumari of Bihar defeated Farheen of Chandigarh 20-5, 6-15, 16-15. In the second singles, Deepika Sinha of Bihar lost to Tuba of Chandigarh 0-12, 8-12, 3-18. Suruchi and Bibha defeated Anjali and Priya of Chandigarh 16-17, 21-1, 18-1.

6-wicket Soni Kumari scripts Bihar win

Patna, December 5, 2010: Mediumpacer Soni Kumari took six wickets for 13 runs off 6.4 overs as Bihar chalked out an impressive 9-wicket victory over Arunachal Pradesh in their opening round-robin league match of the BCCI Associated Members senior women tournament in Shillong on Sunday.

According to information received here, Bihar bowlers sent Arunachal Pradesh batting line up crashing from the very beginning of the innings. Soni captured four quick wickets in her opening spell as Arunachal were reeling at 20 for 4.

Sima Kumari got two Arunachal Pradesh wickets giving away 3 runs in her spell of three overs. Later, Soni uprooted the tails quickly as Arunachal Pradesh managed to score 30 runs off 12.3 overs.

In reply, Bihar reached the target losing one wicket. Priya Kishori (8 not out) and Anita Kumari (9 not out) scored runs for Bihar.

Bihar women cricket team leaves for Shillong

Patna, December 3, 2010: A 15-member Bihar team led by Purnima Verma of Bhagalpur left for Shillong on Friday to participate in the BCCI Associated members’ senior women’s championship to be held from December 5 to 17.

Bihar humble Nagaland to move into U-22 cricket final

Patna, December 3, 2010: Bihar humbled Nagaland by 212 runs in a group B league match and moved into the final of the BCCI Associated Members U-22 tournament at the Digvijay Singh Stadium at Rajnandgaon on Friday.

According to information reached here Bihar will play Chhattisgarh in the final.

Shashim Rathore scored a blazing century in Bihar’s big win. Batting first Bihar scored a mammoth 352 runs off 50 overs. Shashim made 113 runs off 78 balls with 16 boundaries and two sixes. Mangal Mehroor hit 64 off 74 balls with six fours. Sarfaraz Ashraf scored 74 runs off 77 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.

In reply, Nagaland were all out for 140 runs. Satish Roy captured three wickets while Sarfaraz, Rehan and Saket got two wickets each.

Litera Valley School record easy victory

Patna, December 1, 2010: Litera Valley School thrashed Sun International School by seven wickets in the 26th All India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

Ranjit Kumar of the Litera Valley School, who took four wickets for 17 runs, was adjudged man of the match.

Vivek Vihar Public School beat Siddhartha Public School by 16 runs in the second match of the day. Vishal Sinha of Vivek Vihar School, who made 30 runs and captured four wickets for 35 runs, was named man of the match.

Brief scores: Sun International School: 111 all out in 19.5 overs (Pushkar-25, Ankit-25, Kunal-10, ranjit-4/17, Pushkar-3/18).

Litera Valley School: 112 for three wickets in 14.3 overs (Ayush-32 not out, Abhinav-19, Saurabh-10 not out, Harsh-2/23).

Mehroor hits century in Bihar win

Patna, December 1, 2010: Bihar crushed Sikkim by 138 runs in the opening group ‘B’ league match of the BCCI Associated Members U-22 tournament at Digvijay Singh Stadium in Rajnandgaon, about 70 km from Raipur (Chattishgarh) on Wednesday.

In Bihar’s thumping win, Mangal Mehroor hit a magnificent century (106) and Kumar Aditya made 98.

According to information received here, electing to bat first, Bihar Bihar scored 286 for the loss of five wickets off 50 overs. Mangal Mehroor’s 124-ball knock was studded with 13 boundaries and one six. Kumar Aditya stroked in nine boundaries in his 132-ball knock. Sarfaraj Ashraf slammed a blazing 36 off 17 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.

Sikkim were all out for 148 runs off 37 overs. Saket Kumar ripped apart the Sikkim innings claiming four wickets for 24 runs. Sarfaraj Ashraf took two wickets for 34 runs off 10 overs. Rajesh Singh bagged two wickets for 33 runs off 7 overs.

With this victory, Bihar earned bonus points.

Big win for KPS Residential Public School

Patna, November 30, 2010: KPS Residential Public School chalked out 78-run victory over Dev Public School in the 26th All India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Tuesday.

With this win KPS Residential Public School moved into the pre-quarter-finals. Roshan Kumar of KPSRP School, who made 30 runs, was declared man of the match.

In the second match, Swami Vivekanand Residential Public School beat SVMRP School by three wickets. Arpan Pratik of Swami Vivekanand RP School, who hit 43 runs, was declared man of the match.

Bihar kabaddi golden girl Smita returns home to a tumultuous welcome





Patna, November 29, 2010: Four years ago, when Rajiv Kumar Singh, a member of the gold winning Indian kabaddi team in Doha Asian Games, returned home, there were a few people, most of them were the members of the Bihar State Kabaddi Association, at the Patna Junction to accord him welcome. Rajiv’s was the lone gold medalist from Bihar. After four years, Smita Kumari, a member of the gold medal winning Indian women's kabbadi team in the Guangzhou Asian Games in China, reached here to a tumultuous reception. Sports lovers and Bihar Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary received her on arrival from New Delhi at the Jaya Prakash Narayn international airport.

Speaking on the occasion Bihar Minister said that Smita had not only brought pride to India but also for people of Bihar.

He said government would felicitate Smita soon and also offered her a job. Smita is at present working with East Central Railway, Danapur division.

A virtually overwhelmed Smita said she had fulfilled the promise she made before leaving for participating in the Games. “It was great moment for me when we defeated Thailand in the finals and I will always remember the day,” she said.

The women's kabbadi team made history on its debut at the Asian Games.

She thanked her Bihar’s coach Mukesh Kumar and Secretary of the Bihar State Kabbadi Association and manager of the Indian women kbaddi team Kumar Vijay for boosting her morale and offering encouragement that helped her entry into the national team.

Smita, who hails from village Maranchi (Mokama) in Patna district, said she had dedicated the gold medal to the people of Bihar.

Indian women kabaddi team manager Kumar Vijay, who accompanied Smita in the same flight said Indian teams had created history in the both sections. “In the men’s section, the gold medal was sixth time in a row, whereas in the women's section India got the gold in the debut”, he said.

26th Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket begins




Patna, November 28, 2010: The 26th edition of the All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket tournament got off to a colourful start at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Sunday. One exhibition cricket match and an attractive opening ceremony added the charm to the oldest school tournament of Bihar.

In on field action, Greenland International School beat Don Bosco Academy by 17 runs in the opening match. Batting first Greenland boys scored 131 all out off 19.5 overs while Don Bosco Academy boys could muster 114 runs.

Manoj (36), Pulak (26) and Rishab (18) came good with the bat for Greenland. Utshasht captured 3 wickets for 21 runs while Sourabh bagged two wickets.

Saurabh (39) and Anitk (35) did well for Don Bosco Academy but the other batsmen faltered. Rahul Dev took four wickets for 10 runs. Vivek claimed two wickets.

Rahul Dev was declared man of the match.

Earlier, Pratayay Amrit, senior IAS officer, Dr Achal Sinha and Dr Chittaranjan Prasad jointly inaugurated the tournament. Ajay Kumar Sinha, SK Malhotra, Mritunjay Tiwari and Ajay Narayan Sharma were present at the inaugural function. Tournament secretary Bijoy Kumar Narain Chunnu welcomed the guests.

In the exhibition match BP Sinha Foundation prevailed over Punjabi Bradari by 15 runs.

Junaid-ur Rahman, Rinki Ghosh win TT titles

Patna, November 28, 2010: Junaid-ur Rahman won the men singles title of the Professor Brajdev Prasad memorial Bihar state table tennis championships at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Sunday.

Junaid-ur Rahman beat Samir Chakraborty 20-18, 11-9, 11-6 and 16-14 in the final.

Rinki Ghosh became the women champion beating Chandra Rawat 11-4, 11-7, 11-4 in the final.

Naman Kumar of Patna clinched the junior boys’ title defeating Piyush D Gandhi 11-9, 11-8, 11-9. Chandra Rawat of Madhubani won the youth girls’ title beating Payal Kumari (Madhepura) 11-9, 11-9 and 11-9.

Naman Kumar won one more title when he beat Junaid-ur Rahman 11-9,11-8, 11-8 for boys’ title.

In men’s team event final, Patna “B” trounced Madhepura 3-0 for the crown.

Dr Shanti Roy, Dr Himanshu Roy and Dr Sweta Roy jointly gave away the prizes. Bihar Table Tennis Association secretary Mukesh Roy welcomed the guests.

Saina Nehwal gets Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award

New Delhi, November 8, 2010: Dr. M.S. Gill, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports gave away Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for the year 2010 to Saina Nehwal at a simple ceremony here on Monday.

Recognising Saina’s outstanding performance in the badminton and the glory she brought to the country, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for the year 2010 is conferred upon Nehwal. As she was in Paris taking part in World Championship when the National Sports Awards were conferred by the President of India on August 29, 2010, she could not receive the Award on that occasion. In view of this, the award was conferred on heron Monday. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award carries a medal, citation and cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh .

Saina Nehwal’s achievements :

Saina Nehwal is among the outstanding Badminton players ranking 2nd in the World. She has won the Indonesia Super Series, 2010, Singapore Open super Series, 2010, Indian Open Grand Prix, 2010, Indonesia Super Series, 2009, and Indian Open Grand Prix, 2009. She was Semi finalist in 2009 BWF World Championship and Semi finalist in All-England Super Series, 2010 She won gold medal in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games,2010 . She was awarded Arjuna Award in 2009.

Devpriya, Bhavani win U-18 singles titles


Patna, November 8, 2010: Devpriya Jaiswal of Bihar clinched the boys’ U-18 singles title of the AITA ranking tournament defeating state-mate Adamya Vikrant 6-0, 6-1 at the Patliputra Colony courts here on Monday.

With this win Devpriya earned a grand double in the tournament. Earlier, Devpriya pairing with Adamya won the U-18 boys doubles title beating the UP-Rajasthan pair of Armaan Banerjee and Neeraj Choudhray 6-4, 4-6, (10-7) on Sunday.

Bhavani Balakumar of Tamil Nadu claimed the U-18 girls’ singles title defeating Sripriya Sarraf of Bihar 6-2, 6-4. Neeraj Choudhary of Rajasthan won the boys’ U-16 crown after beating Aadamya Vikrant of Bihar 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 in a three-set thriller.

Other results: Boys’ U-16 doubles final: Armaan Banerjee (UP) and Neeraj Choudhray (Raj) beat Adamya Vikrant (Bih) and Venkat Siddharth (Bih) 7-5, 7-6.

Girls’ U-18 doubles final: Akansha Das (Asm) and Srijita Ghosh (WB) beat Shruti Jaiswal (Bihar) and Bhavani Bala Kumar (TN) 6-4, 6-4.

26th Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school cricket from November 28

Patna, November 6, 2010: The 26th edition of the All-India Sukhdeo Narain memorial inter-school under -17 cricket tournament will be held from November 28 at the Moinul Haq Stadium here.

According to tournament committee chairman Gurcharan Gandhi, the last date for entry is November 14. Entry forms will be available at Lav Kush Tower Exhibition Road, Patna, in working days.

Patna Central School 'A' win BB Yadav table tennis team title


Patna, October 30, 2010: Patna Central School ‘ A’ won the boys’ team championship title of the BB Yadav memorial inter-school table tennis tournament beating their ‘B’ team 3-0 in the final at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here on Sunday.

Ankit Kumar bagged the junior boys’ single title defeating Rahul Kumar 11-4, 11-8, 11-9, 9-11 and 11-8 in the final. Saurav Kumar won the sub-junior boys’ singles crown beating Amit Kumar 11-7, 11-3 and 11-7. Aman Trivedi annexed the cadet boys’ singles title defeating Aditya Umang 11-5, 11-6 and 11-8.

Former MLC Vijay Shankar Mishra distributed the prizes. Mukesh Roy, secretary, Bihar Table Tennis Association (BTTA), welcomed the guests. Dilip Kumar Gandhi, treasurer, BTTA, proposed a vote of thanks.

Patna, October 30, 2010: Eklavya Sports Club won the girls’ title of the Bihar state junior ball badminton championship beating GS Club 29-21, 29-22 in the final at the Magadh Mahila College ground here on Sunday.

Comfortable win for Ashwani Public School

Patna, October 30, 2010: Ashwani Public School (APS) crushed Concept Academy by 110 runs in the Maharana Pratap T20 cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday.

Nitish Anand of Ashwani School, who scored 69 runs, was named man of the match.

In the second match, Ara Cricket Club (ACC) thrashed Stadium Boys by five wickets. Varun of ACC, who made 40 runs and claimed two wickets for 13 runs, was adjudged man of the match.

Adamya, Shweta capture tennis titles


Patna, October 29, 2010: Adamya Vikrant of Bihar clinched the boys’ under-16 singles title of the AITA ranking tournament beating his team mate Vaibhav Kumar 6-0, 7-6 in the final at the Patliputra tennis court here on Friday.

Shweta Kumari Ojha won the girls’ U-16 singles crown defeating Sivana Zaidi (UP) 6-4, 7-5 in the final.

Other results: Girls’ under-16 doubles (final): Shweta Kumari Ojha & Madhu Jaiswal (Bihar) bt Sivana Zaidi & Yogita Kumari (UP) 6-4, 6-4.

Grand double for Asmita Ravi

Patna, October 29, 2010: Asmita Ravi of St Michael’s High School won the sub-junior and junior girls’ singles titles of the BB Yadav memorial inter-school table tennis tournament at the Bihar Young men’s Institute here on Friday.

Nilesh Shankar wins boys' U-16 chess title

Patna, October 29, 2010: Nilesh Shankar won the boys U-16 chess title of the Mastermind prize-money inter-school chess championship at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday.

Kumar Harsh, Kusagra Divyam and Siddharth Khanna emerged champions in the boys’ U-10, U-12 and U-14 sections respectively. Usha Arya (RMR Seminary), Minakshi Kumari (Government Middle School, AG Colony), Kamani Kumari (Shastrinagar Girls’ High School) and Swikirti Sinha (DAV School, Khagaul) claimed the titles in girls’ under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-16 sections respectively.

Acharya Sudarshanjee Maharaj, who was the chief guest in the closing function, gave away the prizes and cash awards. Niraj Kumar Pappu, general secretary, Acharya Sudarshan Sports and Cultural Foundation welcomed the guests.

Big win for Target Sports Academy

Patna, October 29, 2010: Target Sports Academy humbled Dhanbad Coaching Camp by ten wickets in the Maharana Pratap T20 cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday.

Rahul Chauhan of Tiger Academy, who remained unbeaten on 50 runs, was declared man of the match.

Adamya Vikrant faces Vaibhav Kumar in final

Rehan captures five wickets

Patna, October 27, 2010: Rehan Das Gupta captured five wickets for only 8 runs to help his team Xavier’s International School post impressive 10-wicket victory over Coaching Camp, Madhubani in the Maharana Pratap T20 cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

Batting first Madhubani boys made 34 runs. In reply, Xavier’s International School opener Rajiv scored a blazing unbeaten 26 with three fours and two sixes to guide his team to victory.

In another match Ashwani Public School (Junior) outplayed ACC Lakhisarai by 84 runs.

Patna, October 25, 2010: Prakirtik School beat YCC by four wickets in the Maharana Pratap T20 inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Monday.

Saurav Kumar of Prakirtik School, who made 23 runs and took two wickets for 12 runs, was declared man of the match.

Narrow win for Nanhe Cricket Academy

Patna, October 24, 2010: Nanhe Cricket Academy (NCA) beat Raj Hans High School by five runs in the Maharana Pratap T20 inter-school cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Sunday.

Sarvesh of NCA, who took two wickets for five runs, was adjudged man of the match. In the second match, Sun Sports Academy thrashed ABS School by 45 runs. Ravi Kumar of ABS School, who made 49 runs, was declared man of the match.

Khushi Sports beat Ballia Cricket Sangh

Patna, October 23, 2010: Khushi Sports outplayed Ballia Cricket Sangh by 68 runs in the Maharana Pratap T20 cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday.

Anurag of Khushi Sports, who scored 82 runs, was declared man of the match.

The day’s second match saw JD Sharma High School beating Bakarganj High School by 110 runs. Rajnish Ojha of JD Sharma High School, who claimed four wickets for three runs, was adjudged man of the match.

Bihar squash teams for Junior National announced

Patna, October 23, 2010: A 34-member Bihar team will take part in the junior, sub-junior National squash championships to be held in Chennai from October 29, according to Kaushal Kishore Singh, secretary, All Bihar State Squash Racket Association.

BB Yadav TT from October 27 in Patna

Patna, October 23, 2010: BB Yadav memorial inter-school table tennis tournament will be held at the Bihar Young Men’s Institute here from October 27, according to Mukesh Roy, secretary, Bihar Table Tennis Association.

Several school teams of Patna including Litera Valley, Patna Central School and Christ Church School had confirmed their participation in the championship, he added.

Shree Krishna and Sanoj Kumar win U-14 doubles title

Patna, October 23, 2010: The Bihar pair of Shree Krishna and Sanoj Kumar won the boys’ under-14 doubles title of the AITA talent search tournament defeating anothet Bihar combination of Anshumat Shrivastava and Adveya Sharma 6-4, 6-3 in the final at the Patliputra Colony court here on Saturday.

The Uttar Pradesh duo of Amritanjay Kumar and Aditya Vishkarma bagged the boys’ under-18 doubles title as their opponents Devpriya Jaiswal (Bihar) and Adamya Vikrant (Bihar) conceded the match due to injury.

Rishi Shankar is Bihar U-17 chess champion

Patna, October 23, 2010: Rishi Shankar of Patna won the Bihar state U-17 chess championships title. At the end of the final round play Rishi emerged head with 5.5 points at the chess training centre of the Moinul Haq Stadium.

Kumar Gaurav of Purnia got the second place with five points.

Saraswati Kumari of Kishangunj clinched the girls title with 4.5 points while Aditi Aditya with four points remained in the second position.

RB Gupta, zonal manager, Central Bank of India, distributed the prizes. Arvind Kumar Sinha, secretary, All Bihar Chess Association (ABCA) welcomed the guests.

ABCA secretary Sinha, later, announced that Rishi Shankar, Kumar Gaurav, Saraswati Kumari and Aditi Aditya would represent Bihar in the National under-17 championship.

3 Jharkhand cricketers to play in 'Apna League Aam Aadmi Ka League'

Jamshedpur, October 22, 2010: Three cricketers from Jharkhand have been selected to play in Indian Premier Corporate League to be held from October 23 to 30 at K D Singh Babu Stadium, Lucknow. Indian Premier Corporate League is being conducted by Indian Twenty 20 Cricket Federation.

Players from Jharkhand Ranjit Kumar will represent Indian Cobras while Aman Kumar and Dhananjay Kumar will play for South Eagles.


Camp-cum-selection trial was conducted by ITCF for two days in Lucknow on October 21 and 22. About 250 players from all over India have been invited by ITCF to attend the trial.

Indian Premier Corporate League matches will be shown live on DD Sports from tomorrow named as "Apna League Aam Aadmi Ka League". Eight teams have been made by ITCF named as Indian Jawans, Indian Blues, Indian Cobras, North Kings, Central Sharks, West Warriors, East Tigers and South Eagles.

President of Jharkhand State Twenty 20 Cricket Association Vipul Shukla and its vice-president Rajnish Kumar congratulated the players and wished them all the best.

Seeded players have it easy in first two rounds

Patna, October 21, 2010: All the seeded players won their respective first and second round matches to collect full points in the Bihar state under-17 chess championships at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Thursday.

Top seed Nilesh Shankar beat Mananjay Kumar in a second round match on the top board in a game of Sicilian defence. Rupesh Ranjan defeated Mahesh Kumar in a Gucci Piano game on board number two. Kumar Gaurav struggled to beat Rakesh Roshan.

Saurabh Anand beat Samarth Mittal in Irregular opening while third seed Rishi Shankar tamed Ritik Kumar in Queen’s Pawn opening.

In girls’ section, two players Saraswati Kumar of Kishanganj and Nirmala Srivastava were leading the tabsle with two points each.

Patna, October 20, 2010: Bihar’s number one Shruti Jaiswal and her brother Devpriya Jaiswal won the AITA talent search series girls and boys U-18 titles respectively at the Patlputra Colony courts here on Wednesday.

In the girls’ under-18 singles final, Shruti Jaiswal of Bihar out played Sripriya Sarraf also from Bihar, 6-3, 6-3. Devpriya Jaiswal drubbed Satwik Roy Sinha (West Bengal) 6-1, 6-1 to take boys U-18 title.

Shree Krishna (Bihar) clinched the boys’ under-14 singles crown beating Yash Raj Sharan (Bihar) 6-1, 6-0.

Ashwani Public School win opening match

Patna, October 20, 2010: Ashwani Public School (junior) thrashed Lucent International School by nine wickets in the opening match of the Maharana Pratap T20 cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Wednesday.

Ishan Kuishan of Ashwani Public School, who made unbeaten 41 runs, was declared man of the mach.

In the second match, Shining School outgunned Indra Singh High School by 44 runs. Pankaj Sharma of Shining School, who took three wickets for nine runs, was adjudged man of the match.

Earlier, Ashwani Group of Companies Director Nishikant inaugurated the tournament.

Shruti meets Sripriya in U-18 singles final

Patna, October 19, 2010: Bihar’s Shruti Jaiswal set up title clash with her state mate Sripriya Sarraf in the girls’ under-18 singles final of the AITA talent search tournament at the Patliputra colony courts here on Tuesday.

In the battle for final slots, Sripriya tamed Richa Sirohi of Uttar Pradesh 6-1, 6-2 while Shruti blanked Ana Upadhyay 6-0, 6-0.

Satwik Roy Sinha of West Bengal and Devpriya Jaiswal of Bihar entered the semifinals in in the boys’ under-18 singles. Shree Krishna (Bihar), Aman Baruah Das (Assam) and Yash Raj Sharan (Bihar) moved into the boys’ under-14 semi-finals.
