Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy clinches Junior National Women’s hockey title

Sonepat, December 12, 2011: Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy beat Jharkhand by 3-2 to win the title of 1st Hockey India Women Junior National Championship held at Moti Lal Nehru School of Sports Complex, RAI in Sonepat on Monday.

In the final match played between Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy and Jharkhand, lead was first taken by Jharkhand. In the 6th minute of the game Nikki Pradhan from Jharkhand scored first goal but later on Kavita Vidyarthi from Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy equalizes the score 1-1 in the 11th minute.

In the 16th minute Basanti Kachhap from Jharkhand scored another goal taking the lead to 2-1. But later on Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy team gave a strong fight.

From MP Hockey Academy Priyanka Wankhede scored two goals in the first half taking the lead of 3-2 for her team. Priyanka scored her first goal in the 26th minute and second goal in the 34th minute of the game.

Jharkhand failed to utilise 4 penalty corners.

In another match played for third place Chandigarh beat Orissa 2-1.
