Orissa win Hockey India Sub-Junior Boys National title

Patna, December 20, 2011: Orissa defeated Haryana 1-0 to lift the Hockey India Sub-Junior Boys National Championship title at Gurgaon, Haryana on Tuesday.

Just as the core line suggest the title clash was a very close affair. In the first half both the teams went all out to score but some fine defending meant that the first half remained goalless.

In the second half Orissa upped their attack and it paid the dividend when they earned a penalty corner in the 60th minute. Sumit Topo then promptly converted the penalty corner to give Orissa the lead.

The hosts tried their level best to equalize the score but Orissa hung on to their lead till the end.

Earlier, Punjab finished third beating Bihar 8-2 in a play off match.

Vikas Kumar (Haryana) was declared player of the tournament while award for best goalkeeper, half back, full back and forward went to Vikas Dahiya (Haryana), Kunjan Topno (Orissa), Anand Lakra (Orissa) and Lavpreet Singh (Punjab) respectively.
